The Community Access Program (CAP) was launched by Industry Canada, to help the rural and distant communities have access to the Internet at an affordable price, and to acquire skills necessary in order to make use of it effectively.
The access to the information highway will create new possibilities of growth and employment while making it possible for the communities to communicate between each other, to brew business, to improve professionalism with their members, or to exchange information and ideas.
The CAP collaborates with Canadian rural communities in order to benefit from information technology. The objective of the program is to stimulate the economic, social, and cultural growth in Canada. All the sites of the Community Access Program are centered on the community, and various partners support the local projects on a provincial, territorial and national scale. Moreover, the regional representatives of the Community Access Program of Industry Canada, the provincial and territorial committees of examination of the Community Access Program, special provincial organizations as well as the national Consultative Committee of the Community Access Program contribute to guide the program.
