Cooking at its best with Johanne McInnis

I created this recipe by accident. It was raining, I couldn't bar-b-q and I didn't have any bottled sauce so I improvised, invented the sauce and baked them in the oven. Erica, my youngest calls these "sausages in the red sauce". I make it once a month or so and if it were up to her, it would be once a week. The sausages are very tender and it tastes great with mashed potatoes and green beans. Good stuff!!

Oven baked bar-b-q sausages

  • 8 sausages, regular/mild Italian or hot Italian
  • ½ cup white vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • ½ cup water
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ tsp pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder or ½ small onion chopped

1. Poke sausages with a fork in several areas and place in a baking dish.

2. Combine all ingredients and mix thoroughly. Pour bar-b-q sauce over sausages. Ensure sausages are fully covered with sauce. Cover and place in oven at 375F. Bake for 30 minutes; remove from oven and flip sausages.

3. Bake in oven uncovered for an additional 10 to 15 minutes.
