Annette Allain's GARLIC SPARERIBS

3-4 pounds spareribs
2/3 cup sugar
2 tablespoons garlic powder
1/3 cup molasses
2 cups very hot water
2/3 cup soy sauce
2 teaspoons cornstarch
4 tablespoons cold water

Boil spareribs with salt about 20 minutes. Drain well adn set aside. In a large pot melt sugar slowly until liquid. Add the water all at once, the sugar will harden (this is normal). Heat again until liquid again. Add molasses, soy sauce, garlic powder and boil hard for 1 minute. Add spareribs and cook at medium for 45 minutes. Thickened with cornstarch dissolved in cold water.
