Guy Cormier

Passed away at his residence on September 26th, 2017 at the age of 83, Mr. Guy Cormier of Atholville, husband of Pauline Cormier. Born in Saint-André, NB, on April 1, 1934, son of the late Armand Cormier and the late Alma Levesque.

Passionate about automobile, it is at the age of 22 that the nicknamed "Kid Dealer" becomes founder and director of Central Garage Limited, car dealers and heavy trucks. For over 60 year retirement was never a thought. He succeeded as a businessman, became involved in several associations, sat in the reopening of the Atholville mill and contributed to his community. Recipient of the "New Brunswick Dealer of Excellence Award" published in July 1997 in Maclean's magazine. Despite his demanding work, his family's well-being remained his highest priority.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline (Godbout) Cormier; his daughter, Anne Cormier; his sons, Michel, Donald (Line), Denis (Yvette), Gaëtan (Rose-Marie) and Roger (Débora); his grandchildren, David, Sarah, Jessica (Gwiss Joseph), Maxime, Prudence, Marie-Lyne, Maya, Maeva and Ezequiel. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters; Clovis (Jeannine), Fernande, Gilles, Claudette, Armande (Yvon), Gaëtane, Marielle (Al), Claude (Cécile), Gisele (Hermel), Micheline (Bert), Jocelyne (Eric) and Jacqueline (Peter). Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Mario (Dona), his brothers-in-law; Gaston, Patrice (Pit), John and his sister-in-law; Lise.

Vella Felix

Vella Felix passed away at the Campbellton Regional Hospital on October 3rd after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. She was 81. She was the daughter of the late Howard & Mary Downs of Flatlands.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Murphy Felix; her daughter Linda (Gordon Kierstead), her son Larry (Cindy Adams) and her daughter Lorelei; one sister Barbara (Len Snow) and brothers Gilbert Downs (Gloria), Donald Downs (Linda), Albert Downs, Steven Downs (Sharon); grandchildren Morgan, Cole, David, Chelsey, Jennifer; great-grandchildren Kaitlyn, George, Samantha, Cassandra, Chloe, Anabelle, Audrey; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Vella was predeceased by her sister Elsa Malley, sister Linda Felix and brother Denzil Downs.

John Maxwell Henderson

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing John Maxwell (Max) Henderson. Max passed away peacefully on September 26, 2017. He was the husband of Janice (Clark) Henderson and was born on December 24, 1932 in Campbellton, N.B. to the late Everett and Flora Henderson.

Max is survived by his wife Janice, his daughter Susan Henderson and by his grandson Neal Anderson (Elyse McKeown). Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son John Henderson and his sister Elaine Henderson.

Max graduated from Mount Allison University and pursued his degree in pharmacy from Dalhousie University. He worked alongside his father Everett at Henderson's Drug Store and enjoyed serving members of the community until his retirement.

Max loved to spend time at the cottage and was an accomplished carpenter. He built the cottage in Escuminac, Quebec on top of a hill overlooking the Restigouche River. He and Jan enjoyed the company of the neighbours over plates of local fare, listening to their stories of old.

Later on, Max and Jan enjoyed retirement and frequent visits to the family cottage in Point Du Chene, N.B. The cottage was also well loved by their son John and his golden retrievers, who enjoyed hosting many BBQs and gatherings with his friends over the years.

Lois Freda (Sherar) Appleby

On October 9, 2017 Lois Freda (Sherar) Appleby passed away at the Cambellton Regional Hospital at the age of 87. She is now reunited with her husband of 62 years, George “Bud” Appleby who previously was deceased on November 13, 2016. Born March 11, 1930, Lois was a lifelong resident of Dalhousie and Point La Nim and was loved by many. She was also predeceased by her parents Clifford and Freda (Law) Sherar-Abud and her sister Patsy (Sherar) Mabon.

Lois was a dedicated health care professional working as a Registered Nurse for over 40 years of uninterrupted service at St Joseph’s Hospital in Dalhousie. She trained at Soldier’s Memorial Hospital in Cambellton and Royal Victoria in Montreal. She also completed advanced professional training through the University of Chicago. While she tirelessly excelled with various roles over her career she is most remembered as the Operating Room Supervisor until her retirement. “Mrs. Appleby”, as she was called, established many long lasting professional relationships and cherished having been a part of such an important institution in her community.

Lois was also adventuresome. Lois and Bud spent a lifetime traveling and exploring whenever they could. Whether it be with their children, other family members or friends, they both knew how to experience life. Driving to Florida and Kansas from Dalhousie before interstate highways, visiting Yugoslavia, Spain and almost every village and pub in the United Kingdom were some of the highlights of their wanderlust. Besides being a full time professional, Lois was an inspired chef and entertaining hostess. Many a Christmas and Holiday dinner included several dozen family, neighbors newly acquired friends.

She was an avid reader in her earlier years and quite readily was prepared to offer an opinion on almost any subject.

Lois is survived by her children and their families. Her daughter Caryl Overing, her husband John and their children Andrew his wife Alexandra, Chelsea and Liam of Montreal PQ. Her son John Appleby, his wife Jennifer and their son Keegan of Colchester CT. She is also survived by her brother Michael Sherar, his wife Elizabeth of Halifax, and their son Brent his wife Misty of Houston TX, and her brother in law Alden Appleby, his wife Noella of Dalhousie NB and their daughters Luce and Lucie of Halifax N.S.

The family would like to take a moment to thank the staff of the Dalhousie Nursing Home whose tireless professional care and comfort for both Lois and Bud will forever be appreciated.

Ulysse James Barriault

Passed away at the Campbellton Regional Hospital on October 5th, 2017 at the age of 83, Mr. Ulysse James Barriault of Campbellton, husband of Doris (Roy) Barriault. Born in Dalhousie on June 28, 1934, son of the late Wilfred Barriault and the late Alfreda (Caron) Barriault.

Besides Doris, his wife of 59 years, he is survived by; his son Gilles (Doris) Barriault of McLeods; his daughter Monique Barriault of Fredericton; one brother, Dr. Ronald (Pat) Barriault of Charlo; his grandchildren, Matthew and Leanne. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his sister Gemma (Louis) Martel.

He was a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1946 Campbellton and an Honorary Member of the Campbellton Fire Department.

Carol Ann Firth

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Carol Ann Firth, passed away on September 21 2017 in Campbellton, New Brunswick, leaving to mourn family and friends. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Carol Ann Firth's life. Flowers and condolences may be sent in memory of the loved one.

Lillian Parker

Passed away at the Campbellton Nursing Home on October 8th, 2017 at the age of 102, Mrs. Lillian Parker of Campbellton, wife of the late Edgar Parker. Born in Campbellton on November 16, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Lemieux and late Rose Delima Albert.

She spent most of her younger life living at home with her mother and father. She traveled a little with her husband and later on bus trips with friends. She loved knitting, crocheting and playing cards.

She is survived by her nephew Claude Lemieux of Campbellton and a close friend; Irene Jenkins of Campbellton. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brother Allan.

Beulah Craswell

Beulah Craswell passed away at the Campbellton Regional Hospital on October 6, 2017 at the age of 93. Born in Mann Settlement on July 19, 1924, daughter of the late James Mann and the late Martha (Thompson) Mann.

Over the years she worked for various fishing camps and Soldiers Memorial Hospital. Beulah was an avid Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Maple Leafs fan.

She is survived by her son Fred of Flatlands, her daughter Kimberly (Richard) of Richmond, BC, stepson Joely (Ruby) of Tide Head, stepdaughter Joyce (John) of Dawsonville, stepdaughter Donna (Craig) of Shedden, Ontario; many grandchildren, great grand children and nieces and nephews. She was pre deceased by her first husband Fred Firth and her second husband Elmer Craswell, a stepson, Lawson Craswell, a stepdaughter, Bernita Craswell and a daughter, Gwen Firth Ironside.
