John Douglas Butland

Jack was reunited with his parents Charles and Delina Butland and Jennie Cahill, war hero brother Herbie, sisters Helen, Betty and Marion Butland Cool on Thursday, November 27. His loving and devoted wife Aline was by his side as he began his faithful journey home. Jack was a true gentleman. He was a kind hearted, loving soul who loved to make people smile and laugh. He had a wonderful sense of humour. A handshake, tip of the hat, a joke or a Werther's Original candy were always something you could count on when meeting Jack. This is how he became known as the "Candyman".

Many may remember Jack as a younger man employed at St. Onge's Grocery Store, but most will remember him from his 22-year career at Beau Brummell men's wear. He was best known for his impeccable fashion, advice and effective eye catching window displays that earned him much praise. Jack loved Campbellton and his life here. Jack's artistic side was evident in everything he touched. He always marvelled at the scenery and beauty of the mountains and river, and believed we lived in the most beautiful place on earth. He often used this backdrop for inspiration when painting or drawing.

Jack, along with his soul mate, Aline, thoroughly enjoyed life together. They loved dancing, travelling, biking, gardening, listening to music and watching movies. Jack's favorite song was "Fascination". The lyrics alone perfectly describe how they were able to celebrate 47 loving years of marriage. A special thank you for the exceptional care Jack received while at the Campbellton Regional Hospital and to the many people who expressed their support, heartfelt wishes and words of encouragement. He will be dearly missed by his wife Aline, beloved nieces Stacey Cool, Julia Cool, Gail Ermacora, nephew Shawn Cool, sister-in-law, Gerrie Gaudet, brother-in-law, Georges (Glenda) Comeau and families.

In respect to Jack's final wishes, no visitation or funeral will be held. A private family interment and celebration of life will be held in the spring. Memorials can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Donor's charity of choice.
