Catherine Evelyn Caron
Catherine Evelyn Caron (nee Barbour) born in Dalhousie on April 6, 1935 died on November 1, 2013 in Campbellton.
Only 5'2" yet mighty in spirit! That was our Mother! Together with our Dad, she was the glue that kept our family together! A woman who was the ultimate Mama Bear- fiercely loyal, matter of fact, yet a entle, loving mother who soothed us with her singing; caressed us when sick; and gave us a figurative "kick in the butt" when needed! A multi-talented and creative woman who became an expert sewer, knitter, crocheter and chef. Mom a trained Mezzo Soprano whose angelic voice graced our lives including those neighbours who often mistook her for a singer on the radio. She loved to dance with her children on top of her feet moving and gliding across the kitchen floor! She had a practical intellect, was strong in her opinions and appeared fearless to all of us! Mom broke the mould in so many ways agreeing to marry Dad the first night they met; marrying him within four months of their first date; learning to fluently speak French- Dad's native tongue, and support him unconditionally through his many business and political ventures. We always knew we could rely on her sage advice and dry wit to pick our stirits up! She relished us running into the house from school calling out to her "Mom! Where are you? Guess what I did....!!!" Even when diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis which ravaged her body she continued to maintain a sense of style and dealt with adversity head-on! She volunteered her time for the local curling club, sang solo in the church choir, campaingned for local charity organizations and was a member of the CWL.
She will be sorely missed by her husband-partner and soul mate of 57 years, Roger; her children Johanne, Patricia (Tom), Michel (Margo), and Lise. Her three grandchildren, whom she delighted in their individual achievements-Keri Anne, Joshua and A.J.
Mom was pre-deceased by her parents, Bernetta (nee Harris) Barbour and her father, Richard Sr Barbour.
She leaves behind a huge extended family including her sister, Cameron Taylor, her five brothers Richard J. (Penny), John (Theresa), Bernard, Patrick (Therese) , and Brian, as well as several nieces and nephews!
Her family wants to particularly thank the ICU staff at the Campbellton Regional Hospital who cared for her tenderly and maintained her sense of dignity even when she wasn't aware of it!. Family flowers only.
