Doris Mary Thompson

Doris Mary Thompson was born December 7 1924. She was the 3rd eldest daughter of David Wesley Walker and Cinderella Best. She spent most of her younger life in Glencoe until she met and married a handsome young soldier by the name of Reginal Thompson in July 1946. She moved to begin her married life in Glenlevit. She told us how she use to listen for the sound of his boots on the track as he walked from Glenlevit to Glencoe when they were courtin.

Although Doris and Reg were never blessed with children of their own, they loved being out and around with the young people. Many a happy hour was spent at the rink in Glenlevit where they got to know all the kids. Doris would often recall Lennie White's kids and how much she thought of them. She liked picking berries, gardening and "working at the wood". Most of all, she loved being a helper and wife to her beloved Reg. She would tell us stories of some of the "spots" they got into when cutling and hauling their winters wood. She liked being outdoors and would haul on her old gloves and work clothes and head down to the wood pile. The only time I didn't see her do this was the fall she died.

Doris loved to laugh, she loved seeing visitors and she loved her ice cream. She would giggle telling us about Eva, when warned by us not to ask for ice cream, leaned over to Doris and whispered, "Ask me is I would like a little taste of ice cream".

She enjoyed Stevens visits, Errol's trout and when David brought up the big blue tractor to clean her driveway. She would marvel at the little Murray boys, how hard April worked and the goings on at Gordies' old place.

Doris remained quite independent up until the very end. She went to be with the LORD in the little house where she and Reg were so happy. We spoke of heaven a few days before she died and we reassured her that Reg was waiting for her. Her face lit up and she said simply "I'd like that"

God bless you Doris. Rest in Peace old girl.
