Mary Legacy
The death of Mary Legacy of Belledune, wife of the late Sanford Legacy, occurred at the Bathurst Regional Hospital on August 7, 2001 at the age of 84.

She was born in Jacquet River to the late Paul Furlong of Nash Creek and Emma Godin of Jacquet River.

She had been a teacher for over 30 years.
She is survived by her daughter Mary Lou (Charles) Patturelli of Medford, Mass., sons Walter (Yvette) and Fidele (Joan), both of Belledune, six grandchildren, one step-grandchild, two greatgrandchildren and sisters HIlda, Ruby, Margaret, Ethel and Louella.

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother Walter and sisters Dorothy Guitard and Leona McGregor.

Doris M. Furlotte
Doris M. Furlotte of 34 Andrew St., Campbellton, passed away at the Campbellton Regional Hospital on July 29. She was 76.

Born in Campbellton on July 8, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Anna (Holmden) Sherrard.

She is survived by her husband, Henry (Pete) Furlotte, two daughters, Ann Furlotte Doucette and Elizabeth (Marc) Borris, both of Campbellton and a son, Michael, of Hamilton, Ont., and grandchildren Robert Morrison, Karen and Andrew Furlotte, Erin and Ryan Doucette and Emmanuel and Gabriel Borris.

Also surviving are a sister Marquita (Ed) Martin of Campbellton and three brothers, Henry (Betty) of Montreal, Elwin (Greta) of Miramichi and William (Kathy) of Hamilton.

She was predeceased by a brother, David, a sister, Joyce and two sons, Charles and Gordon.



Samuel Hawthorne Smillie

Samuel Hawthorne Smillie, 82, of Bedford, N.S. passed away August 7, 2001, in the QE11 Infirmary Site, Halifax. He was born in Milton, Ontario.

He was a King Scout in his early years. Later he became a Boy Scout Leader in Gatineau Quebec. He was an RCAF flying instructor during WW11, teaching Canadian, British and American pilots and pilots of the Royal Navy and Royal Canadian Navy.

After WW11 his volunteer activities included being president of the Royal Canadian Legion in Dalhousie. Recently he received special recognition from the Rotary Club in Dalhousie as a Paul Harris Fellow for his volunteer services.

During most of his working career he was involved with human resources in the pulp and paper industry with special focus on labour relations. He was at one time personnel superintendent at the then N.B. International Paper Company Mill in Dalhousie.

His most recent activities have been as a consultant to employees downsizing: helping with career planning, counselling and job seeking, "HE MADE A DIFFERENCE".

He is survived by his wife Jean (Betty) Elizabeth Simone (Orr), daughter Ann David, Bedford, son John and his wife Nancy (Dellin), Ottawa, son-in-law Rowland David, Mount Uniacke, N.S., sister Greta Nesbit, Guelph, Ontario, brothers Colin, Orangeville, Ontario and George, Milton, Ontario, grandchildren Genevieve, Scott, Brennan and Tara, great-grandchildren Madison Lea, Raylene and Jena-Kate.

He was predeceased by his son DAvid, brothers David and Jack and sister Mollie.



Murray G. Cooling

The death of Murray G. Cooling of 300 Dover street, Campbellton and formerly of Flatlands, occurred August 3 at the Campbellton Regional Hospital at the age of 72.

He was born in Campbellton on March 3, 1929 to the late Scott and Mabel (Murray) Cooling.

He was an employee of CN Express for 36 years, was an Elder of the Flatlands United Church for 30 years, was made an honourary member in 1995 and was a member of the CN Pensioners and LOL #13.

He is survived by his wife Elizabeth (Betty) of Campbellton, sons Scott (Paulette) of Oakville, ONtario, David (Rube) of Sussex N.B. and Robin (Patty) of Winnipeg, Manitoba, sister Faye Garden of Whitby, Ontario, Brothers Jack (Willa) of Newcastle, N.B. and Royce (Ethel) of Whitby, Ontario, half-sister Lynn Mann (Sanford) of Flatlands, half-brothers Daryl (Ruby) McDavid of Toronto and Carson (Joyce) McDavid of Moncton and four grandchildren Chet and Jay Cooling of Sussex, N.B. and Trisha and Ashley Cooling of Winnipeg, Manitoba.

He was predeceased by his beloved grandson Christopher on February 20, 2000, his father in 1938, his mother in 1995, his half-brother Duane McDavid in 1994 and his half-sister Heather McDavid.
