Dalhousie News Dalhousie Newsman Dies in 67th Year (does anyone have the excact day or date of his death?) George Christie, the founder and former owner of the Dalhousie News, died here unexpectedly Tuesday morning. Mr. Christie collapsed beside his car outside his home and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the St Joseph's Hospital in Dalhousie. He was 66. Mr. Christie had a lifelong involvement with newspapers. It began as a printer's apprentice at the age of 12 and continued as a reporter for weekly newspapers in Campbellton and Bathurst. In 1930 he began work with the Campbellton Graphic and in 1934 he set off on his own and founded the Dalhousie News. He was the editor of the Dalhousie News for 40 years before he sold the paper in January of this year. After selling the paper he still continued to contribute articles. During his long and respected involvement with Dalhousie he served two terms as an alderman. On the occasion of his retirement he was honored by the Chamber of Commerce and given a silver tray by the Town of Dalhousie. He is survived by his wife, the former Sarah Hamilton; one son, Bruce Chritie of Edmonton, Alberta; and two daughters, Mrs. J. P. Jones of Guelph, Ontario and Mrs. Geoffrey Sayre of St Bruno, Que.
