Ray J. Farrer The Victim In A Tragic Accident

Rayford John "Ray" Farrer, 53 Kedgwick River, was the victim in a tragic drowning accident not far from his home in the early hours of Tuesday morning as he proceeded from his home by canoe to the point about one and one-half miles downstream on the main Restigouche where he was stationed as a fish warden. In some unaccountable manner, in waters he probably knew as well as anyone in the district, his canoe upset and his death by drowning followed. Later when he was missed and when his boat was found a considerable distance downstream, a search disclosed his body, late in the afternoon. The remains were brought to an undertaking establishment here that evening about ten o'clock and taken to Tide Head to the home of Wesley Miles where the funeral is being held this afternoon.

Deceased, a well known and popular river figure, is survived by his wife, the former Miss Libby Dow, one daughter Ray, and two sons, John and Lloyd. Also surviving are his father, Isaac Farrer, one son, Ivan "Pat", and seven sisters Mrs. Allie Murray, Mrs. Harvey Wyers, Mrs. Frank McKiel, Mrs. Winston Ferguson, Mrs. Fred Wyers and Mrs. David Ferguson and Mrs. Guy Ferguson.

Coroner Boulay of St Quentin conducted an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy and decided an inquest would not be necessary.
