Yolande Harper
HARPER, Yolande Emilie Marie "Yo" - 77, Enfield, passed away at home on Wednesday, December 19, 2007, after a lengthy illness. Always proud of her Acadian heritage, Yo was the daughter of the late Agapit and Marie Anne (Roussel) St. Pierre, who were born near the Acadian heart of North Eastern New Brunswick, in the Tracadie area. Yo was born and grew up in Dalhousie, N.B., and graduated from the local Convent school with a certificate of excellence in all secretarial functions, which served her well in her first job, at age 16, at the Enterprise Foundry in Sackville, N.B., as a bi-lingual stenographer. In later years she worked in financial institutions in Campbellton and Halifax; worked for a time on a special project being carried on at the Victoria General Hospital, and went on to secretarial duties at Dalhousie University, both in the Kellogg Library and the office of the Dean of Medicine. In 1956 Yo entered another phase of her full life with the arrival of the first of three adopted children who remained her pride and real joy until her death. Since moving to Enfield she had been involved in the activities of Neighbourhood Watch and Citizens On Patrol, both associated with the local Detachment of the RCMP. It was with regret that she had to end this volunteer work when her health began to fail. Yolande is survived by her husband of 55 years, Bill; sons, Peter (Nancy), Waverley; Michael, Vancouver, B.C.; daughter, Rachelle (Lee) Adamson, Hamilton, Ont., and grandchildren, Cadence and Conor Harper, and Rebecca and Victoria Adamson; also brother, Guy (Jackie) St. Pierre, Mount Hope, Ont., and sisters-in-law, Gertrude St. Pierre and Alice Basque, Dalhousie, N.B., and Simonne Basque, Montreal, Que. Other half-brothers and a sister died earlier. Among those who mourn their loss are many nieces and nephews. There will be no visitation. Cremation having taken place. A funeral mass in St. Bernard's Church in Enfield on December 27 at 11 a.m., will celebrate the life of this loving and remarkable wife, mother and grandmother. A reception will follow. Family flowers only, please, and donations may be made to The Arthritis Society or a charity of choice. On-line condolences may be directed to: ettingerfuneralhome@hotmail.com
