Vincent Dempsey

It is with great sadness the family of Vincent Stephen Dempsey wishes to announce his death in Campbellton, on Saturday April 16, 2011 in his 89th year. Vince was born in Jacquet River, and was the son of the late Paul Dempsey and Elizabeth (Roy).

Vince served his county with the Carlton York Regiment from 1941 until 1945 seeing action in Sicily. After the war he moved to St Stephen where he met and married Alice Genevieve (Betty) Troy from Woodstock. In 1955 together with their two young daughters they moved to Kingston Ontario. Vince worked for many years at Rideau Marina. One of the highlights of his time there was meeting and developing a friendship with author and television producer Rod Sterling of The Twilight Zone as he was an avid science fiction fan. He was also employed in later years at the Catholic School Board. Vince flourished in retirement with various hobbies; bowling, painting, wood carving and writing. He was an author of two books of short stories and poetry, drawing from his life experiences. He and Betty loved their gardens, seniors' bus trips and their home on Florence Street, but most of all their family.

He is survived by his wife Frances (Doucet), daughters Charlene Cox (Gary), of Godfrey, ON., and Gloria Morris (Charlie) of Kingston, grandchildren Nadine Cox, Stephen Cox, Christopher Morris (Trish) all of Kingston and great granddaughters Alexa and Julia. He is also survived by his step-children Ivan (Susan), Phillip (Lesley), Mike (Line), Donna (Marc Savoie) and their children, brothers Donald, Lionel and Gus; sisters Genevieve and Dorothy; and special friends Tootsie Laroque, Charlie's son Mike and Lucia Veloso.

He was predeceased by his first wife Betty; his brother Clarence and sister Leona and step-sons Lloyd and Alex Doucet.
