Clara LaBillois

Clara LaBillois passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, on January 10, 2007 at the CLSC Matapedia.

Born in Listuguj on August 2, 1921 to the late Joseph LaBillois and the late Margaret LaBillois (née Vicaire), Clara was the youngest of ten children. She had dedicated her life to her family, lovingly providing full time care for her Mother and cooking for her extended family. For all who visited, Clara always had homemade goodies in the pantry.

Clara's passion was gardening, with a bountiful vegetable garden and her mother's treasured dahlia garden. Clara's flower garden was a labor of love enjoyed by many in the community. Clara compiled a prized collection of photos documenting our family history. She will be remembered for her gentle manner and kind generous spirit. We will miss her weekly faithful walk to Church in her Sunday best and fine hats, as Clara was an avid shopper and very fashionable.

Clara is survived by her sister Jean (Noel) Metallic, several nieces and nephews, along with a large extended family.

Pallbearers, from every branch of the family, included Bill Latter, Roger Metallic, Michael LaBillois, Rene (Cool) Martin, Ronnie Barnaby and William (Mitch) Mitchell. Honorary pallbearers included Tom LaBillois, Joe Robert Metallic, Bennie Vicaire, Ronald Jacques, Douglas Martin and Allison Metallic.

The funeral mass was officiated by Father Landry on January 13, 2007 at the Saint Anne's Church in Listuguj. The Listuguj choir, along with soloist Simon Dedam, sang Clara's favorite hymns, including "O Mother Saint Anne", the "Lord is my Shepherd", and "Amazing Grace" for the recessional. A committal service will take place at the Listuguj cemetery in the Spring.

The Mi'gmaq community mourns the passing of Clara, an elder, a speaker and a friend.
