Albertine Gauvin

Passed away at the Campbellton Regional Hospital on Feburary 22nd, 2009 at the age of 86, Mrs. Albertine Gauvin. Born in Eel River Crossing on November 2nd, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Gaspard Allard and the late Rose Anna Savoie. She leaves to mourn her daughters Alice (Don) Gallant from St. John, Irène Robichaud from Moncton and Rita Gauvin from Boisbriand, her sons Raymond (Karen) from Montreal, Edgar (Colleen) from Charlo and Albert (Lise) from Charlo, her sisters Marguerite from Pointe Claire, Liza from Charlo and Léa from Moncton, her brother René from Eel River. Also survived by her 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her husband Amédée Gauvin. The funeral mass was held from Our Lady of Snows Church Campbellton on Wednesday February 25th at 11am. Father Romeo Morrison officiating. Interment at St. John Baptist Cemetery Dalhousie this spring. Funeral arrangements were in the care of Maher's Funeral Home, Campbellton.

Arthur Doucet

The death of Arthur Doucet of Nash Creek occured at the St. John Regional Hospital Wednesday Feb. 11th, 2009 at the age of 82. Born in Nash Creek, he was the son of the late Hector Doucet and the late Mary (Landry). Arthur was a plumber by trade and founded and operated Doucet Plumbing for thirty five years. He loved cards, fishing, the woods and sports of all kinds especially hockey. He is survived by his wife Jacqueline (LaPointe); sons, Stephen (Ruth) of Seaside, Paul of Nash Creek, Mark (Dolla) of New Mills; daughters, Lisa LaPointe (Ben) of LaPointe Settlement, Maria Harvey (Wayne) of Nash Creek; eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Arthur was also survived by his brother George (Noreen) of Campbellton as well as his sisters, Marie McNair of Dalhousie, Eileen Shea of Blacklands, Ida Roy of Campbellton, Irma Sutton of New York and Carmel Roy of Jacquet River. He was pre-deceased by his brothers, Patrick, Alphie, Adrian, Joe and a sister, Theresa. His funeral was held from St. Joseph's Church, Nash Creek, Saturday Feb.14th, 2009 officiated by Father David Ferguson. Pallbearers were his grandchildren, Tiffany Doucet, Craig Doucet, Erin Doucet, Joey Doucet, Jordon LaPointe and Meghan Harvey. Honorary pallbearers were George Doucet, Allison Blake, Paul LaPointe, Donnie Harvey, Wayne Harvey and Allen Roy. Funeral arrangements were in the care of MacMillans Funeral Home, Black Point.

Arthur Savoie
1925 - 2009

Passed away peacefully after a lengthy battle with cancer at the Campbellton Regional Hospital on February 14th, 2009 at the age of 83 years and 8 months, Mr. Arthur Savoie of Balmoral. Born on June 21, 1925, he was the son of the late Arthur Savoie and the late Helene Bernard. Arthur loved nature (Snowmobile, 4 wheeler, hunting and fishing), playing cards, especially crib and 45, listening to music, the violin. He leaves to mourn his wife Evelyn Arseneault of 50 years, one son Victor (Nicole Daigle) from St. Louis de Kent, one daughter Helene (Pierre Morais) from Tracadie-Sheila, 6 grandsons whom he adored Maxime, Danik, Marco, Hugo, Alexis and Jonathan, one sister Clara Savoie McIntyre from Mountain Brook as well as several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law from the Savoie & Arseneault families. Predeceased by five brothers Leo, Omer, Roland, Donat and Georges and one sister Alice. The funeral mass was held from St. Benoit Church Balmoral on Wednesday February 18th at 4pm. Father Leo Lanteigne officiating. Interment at the Parish Cemetery this spring. Donations to the Tree of Hope would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements were in the care of Maher's Funeral Home, Balmoral.

Debbie Doucet

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Debbie Doucet on Saturday, February 14th, 2009 at the Campbellton Regional Hospital. Born in Dalhousie on March 2nd, 1953, she was the daughter of the late Connie Furlong (Arseneault). She leaves to mourn her father Ben Arseneault of Dalhousie, her husband Donald of 31 years, two sons, Shawn (Erica) of Eel River Crossing, Jason (Renelle) of Eel River Crossing and her two grandchildren, Tyler, 6 years old and Carissa, 2 years old; three sisters, Penny (Brian), Moncton, Sharon (Paul), Shediac, Ann (Rick), Petitcodiac, and two brothers, Jeffrey (Jacqueline) and Brian (Cheryl) of Dalhousie. Debbie was a grand presence in the lives of her nieces and nephews. She will long be remembered by her many friends. An active member in her community, she could be found most Sundays serving Mass at the Saint Trinity Church next to her home in Eel River Crossing. When she wasn't at the Golden Age Club cooking, Debbie and Donald could be found somewhere playing Bingo. She had a passion knitting for everyone and made sure there was a fridge full of sweets for her company. Her family wish to express their sincere thanks for all the care and support given by the numerous doctors and nurses. A celebration of her life was held on Thursday, February 19th at 4:00pm at the Saint Trinity Church in Eel River Crossing. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in her honor.

Donald Cecil Smith
March 30, 1924 - February 16, 2009

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our loving father Cecil Smith on February 16, 2009. Born on March 30, 1924 in Glen Levit NB, he was the son of the late Donald and Mary (Thompson) Smith. Cecil was predeceased by our loving mother and the love of his life Greta (Boudreau) and their infant children, son Donald and daughter Lana. He also was predeceased by his late brothers Hugh, Harold, William, Robert, Wilford and Angus and his sisters, Laura Mae Johnson, Eva Pollock and Wanda Kierstead and most recently by his dear friend and brother-in-law Wallace Boudreau. Cecil was employed by Fraser Companies Ltd. as a Stationary Engineer up until his retirement in 1973. During his employment he formed lasting friendships with co-workers and management alike. Cecil is survived by his three daughters, Heather Smith Dolan from Victoria, BC; children, Jeremy (Stefaine), Tyler (Jane) Great grandson Trenton) and Amy (Steven), Valerie (Jim) Durnin, Calgary, AB children Jamey, Kelly & Jessie, Kim MacLean, Fredericton, NB (Dr. David) children Andrew and Alexandra. Cecil was a caring, gentle man with a quick wit and an even disposition. He enjoyed telling stories of days gone by and he had a great appreciation for nature and animals. With our saddened hearts, we seek solace in knowing that Cecil believed our days are numbered here on earth and that he has been called Home to be with the Lord to be in his comfort and grace. A special thanks to good friends Jack McGovern, Donna Smith, Guy and Marie Luc Richard for their support and care. To the I.C. Unit of the Campbellton Regional Hospital we send our gratitude for their perseverance and compassionate care for our dad. We would also like to thank our family, friends and neighbors for their sincere support and generosity. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. JEAN-GUY DUMAS

Cette avec grande tristesse que la famille annonce le décès de Jean-Guy Dumas, époux de Yvette Lepage, de Balmoral, décédé le dimanche 15 février à l'Hôpital Régionale de Campbellton, à l'âge de 78 ans. Né à St-Hyacinthe, Québec, le 26 novembre 1930, il était le fils de feu Alexandre Désiré Dumas et de feue Louise Landry. Il laissera un grand vide dans le coeur de sa famille. En plus de son épouse tant aimée et respectée, il laisse dans le deuil ses filles Sylvie de Québec et Liette d'Ottawa, ainsi que ses fils Michel et Guy, tous les deux de Balmoral. En plus des conjoints et conjointes de ses enfants, il laisse également dans le deuil ses petits- enfants qu'ils adoraient et dont il était très fier: Danielle, Stéphanie, Sébastien, Kevin, Danny, Christina, Christopher, Nicholas, Pascal, Jérémie et Jolène. Il laisse également dans le deuil quatre (4) arrière-petits-enfants. Il manquera également à ses frères et soeurs Robert, Gilles, Marcel, Ghislaine et Micheline. Jean-Guy est parti retrouver son fils, Jacques, qui l'a précédé dans la tombe, de même que sa soeur Jacqueline et son frère Mario. Jean-Guy a été un homme d'affaires bien connu et respecté dans sa communauté. Il a été très fier de son entreprise qu'il a mis sur pied, la Laiterie Inter-City à Dalhousie Junction, entreprise qu'il a exploitée avec succès jusqu'en mai 1983, date à laquelle celle-ci était la proie des flammes. Tous les membres de la famille y ont travaillé et Jean-Guy a vite enseigné à ses enfants les vraies et bonnes valeurs de la vie. Il a par la suite partagé son expertise et son expérience en enseignant au Collège Communautaire de Campbellton. Malgré son dévouement à sa famille et son entreprise, Jean-Guy a été très généreux envers sa communauté, par ses nombreuses heures de bénévolat qu'il a consacré. Il a dirigé la chorale de Balmoral pendant de nombreuses années. Ses sages conseils ont égalment bénéficié les nombreuses organismes dont il a été parti, soit entre autre: Le Conseil d'Administration de la Caisse populaire de Balmoral, le Centre d'Aide aux Entreprises Restigouche, La Place Colombienne de Balmoral, la Société d'Habitation du N.-B., pour n'en nommer que quelques uns. La famille recevra parents et amis au Salon funéraire Maher de Balmoral. Les funérailles auront lieu en l'église Saint-Benoit de Balmoral, le jeudi 19 février 2009, à 16h. Heures de visite: le mercredi 18 février 2009 de 19h à 21h, et jeudi le 19 février 2009, de 14h jusqu'au départ pour les funérailles. Un merci spécial à toute l'équipe du département des Soins palliatifs de l'Hôpital Régionale de Campbellton qui a accompagné la famille dans cette difficile épreuve. Leur dévouement et leur compassion ont allégé notre douleur et permis à Jean-Guy de partir en toute dignité. ?la mémoire de Jean-Guy, un don à "La Fondation des amis de la Santé, Soins Palliatifs", de l'Hôpital Régionale de Campbellton serait apprécié par la famille. Edward J. Rooney
1930 - 2009

Edward J. Rooney of Chicago, IL passed away on Jan. 29th on the MS Noordam while on a Caribbean cruise. Mr. Rooney was born in Campbellton, N.B. on Nov. 2nd, 1930 son of Duncan J. and Elizabeth (Geraghty) Rooney. He is survived by his loving family, namely, his sister Margaret Rooney Prescott and her husband Larry of Poughkeepsie, NY, two nephews, James H. (and Brenda) Prescott of Cambridge, Massachusetts and John C. Prescott of San Francisco, his niece Mary Prescott Archambault (and Marc) of Pomfret, Connecticut and great nieces Molly, Kate and Sophie Archambault and great nephew Jack Archambault. Mr. Rooney graduated from The Academy of the Assumption in Campbellton and shortly afterward worked for a short time for the CNR in Montreal. In 1953 he began a life-long career with the Sante Fe Railroad in Chicago. Edward was an avid foot ball fan, especially of Notre Dame football where he held season's tickets to home games for 42 years. He loved to travel, especially on cruise ships. He was an active member of Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago where he was a Head Usher for over 30 years. He was active in the Sante Fe Railroad retirees Association. He will be dearly missed by his family and many friends. Edward loved to come home to Campbellton and the Gaspe coast and to visit his immediate family in the eastern USA. His Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Michael's Church in Chicago on Feb. 7th. Holy Name Cathedral suffered a large fire just prior to his funeral, hence the funeral at St. Michael's. Interment will be scheduled for the summer in the Rooney family plot at St. Anne's Church in Restigouche, PQ.
