Rina Drapeau Bernard

Passed away at the Campbellton Regional Hospital on February 21, 2007 at the age of 90, Mrs. Rina Drapeau Bernard, wife of the late André Bernard. Born in Balmoral on November 15, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Isidore Drapeau and the late Malvina Landry.

She leaves to mourn her children Claudette (Yvon Boudreau) from Charlo, Adrienne (Jean Guy) Mercier from Balmoral, Réjeanne (Raymond Laviolette) from Calgary, Robert (Diane Truchon) from Montreal and Yvon (Yvette Fontaine) from Dundee. Her grandchildren Line and Alain Boudreau, André, Luc and Nadine Mercier and Rémi Bernard. Her great grandchildren Nathan Mercier and Miguel and Simon-Olivier Arseneaut. She also leaves to mourn her brothers and sisters Laurent (Jeannine) Drapeau from Balmoral, George Drapeau (Rolande) from Welland, Ontario, Reverend Benoit Drapeau from Phoenix, Arizona, Zélia (late Elie) Savoie from Rockland, Ontario, Lucille Drapeau and Yvette (Ted) Minville from Montreal and Dora (Armand) Savoie from Balmoral. She was predeceased by her parents as well as her brothers Emery, Willie and Edgar.

The funeral mass was held from St. Benoit Church in Balmoral on Monday February 26th at 4pm. Father Lanteigne officiating.

Funeral arrangements were in the care of Maher's Funeral Home, Balmoral.

Robert "Bob" Edward Matchett

A long time resident of Topanga and Calabasas, California, passed away n Monday, February 5, 2007. Bob (aka "Rock", "Canvas Back") was born in Broadlands, Que. on December 10, 1933 and grew up in Dalhousie, NB. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy at age 17 where he was a standout football and hockey player and boxer. He arrived in the US in 1957 on a Greyhound bus and became a US citizen soon after.

Bob received his BS and MS degrees in Electrical Enginerring and Management Science respectively and worked for LA area engineering firms including ARL, Amperif, and 3M. Bob's entrepreneurial spirit led him to found two small companies - MBK Technology and Topanga Private Security Services (TPSS).

Bob married Marilyn Vick in 1968 and together they had two sons - Kevin Edward of Woodland Hills, CA and Brian Robert of Livermore, CA. Bob is also survived by his sister Rita Hunter of North Vancouver, BC, and brother Leslie of Fredericton, NB, and his two grandchildren - Cassandra Jane and Justin Brian. Robert's ashes will be returned to Dalhousie, NB in the company of his family.

Walter Gauthier

The death of Walter Gauthier of Jacquet River occurred Thursday, March 1st at the Bathurst Regional hospital at the age of 92.Born in Jacquet River, the son of the late Ben Gauthier & Josephine (Duplessis) Gauthier.

He is survived by his wife Estella, sons Raymond (Anne-Marie) of Jacquet River, Sam (Patsy) of Bathurst, Andrew (Gertrude) of Jacquet River, Eugene (Brenda) of Jacquet River, James (Genevieve) of Jacquet River, Hubert (Mary Jean) of Jacquet River, Walter Jr. (Betty) of Jacquet River, Louis (Sophie) of Jacquet River, Danny (Cecile) of Jacquet River, daughters Rita Dempsey of Bathurst, Cecilia LaPointe (Joe Roy) of Bathurst, and Doreen Gauthier of Moncton, 31 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

His funeral was held from St. Gabriel's Church, Jacquet River Saturday March 3/07 with Father David Ferguson officiating. Pallbearers were his sons Raymond, Sanford, Andrew, Eugene, James and Hubert. Honorary pallbearers were grandchildren Glenn Gauthier, Ricky LaPointe, Michael Gauthier, Andrew Gauthier Jr., Nigel Gauthier, Wendy Gauthier, Denise Gauthier, Rodney Gauthier, Jeffrey Gauthier, Jenny Lee Gauthier, Luke Gauthier, Cody Gauthier, Shelley Gauthier, Sean Gauthier, Darren Gauthier, Serena Gauthier, Krista Pettigrew, Kerry Pettigrew and Keith Pettigrew. Funeral arrangements were in the care of MacMillan's Funeral Home, Black Point.

Yvonne "Bae" Carrier

Passed away at Dalhousie Nursing Home on March 07, 2007 at the age of 84. Born Yvonne Leblanc in Nouvelle PQ, she was a life long resident of Dalhousie.

She was predeceased by her husband John Carrier.

She leaves behind her children, Ray (Hairong) of Washington DC, Dan (Jennifer) of Fall River N.S., Frank (Miriam) of Quispamsis NB and Nancy of Upper Musquodoboit N.S.; and also granddaughters Stephanie, Tracy, Christina, Sheila, Erin, Lindsy, Amy and Emily, and grandsons Bradley and Simon and also great-grandchildren Emma, Sophia and Ethan.

She is survived by brother Frank Leblanc of Ottawa, and predeceased by brothers Everist, Herman, Edmond and Melvin and sisters Carmen, Donia, Marion and Anita.

Bae was an active member of her community for years and leaves behind many good friends. She worked several years at the Dalhousie Nursing Home, was a Girl Guide Leader, local seamstress and did volunteer work in Dalhousie. She touched many lives and will be missed by all. Funeral mass was held at St. John Bosco Church Dalhousie on Saturday March 10th at 11:00am.

Funeral arrangements were in the care of Maher's Funeral Home, Dalhousie.
