Rita Francoeur

Passed away at the Campbellton Regional Hospital on April 12, 2010 at the age of 68, Mrs. Rita Amanda Francoeur of Charlo.

Born in L'Alverne, QC on May 11, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Turgeon and the late Marianne Duguay.

She leaves to mourn her husband Leo Paul Francoeur, her daughters Monique (Jean-Paul) Doucet, Carol (Randy) Landry, Linda (Yves) Francoeur and Denise (Paul) Chauvin, her sons Charles (Geraldine) Francoeur and Fabien (Linda) Francoeur, her brothers Maurice Turgeon and Jean Pierre Turgeon. Also survived by her 14 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her mother Marianne Duguay, her father Arthur Turgeon, her sister Aline (Kenneth) Gallant Butler.

The funeral mass was held from Mary Queen Church Richardsville on Friday, April 16th at 2pm. Father Romeo Morrison officiating. Funeral arrangements were in the care of Maher's Funeral Home, Campbellton

Opal Wilson

Passed away at the Campbellton Regional Hospital on April 6, 2010 after a lengthy illness, at the age of 74, Mrs. Opal Wilson of Campbellton.

Born in Matapedia on November 3, 1935, she was the daughter of the late James Allan and Margaret McDavid.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church Flatlands, Hospital Auxiliary, Womens Missionary Society of Flatlands and Flatlands Womens Institute. She leaves to mourn her daughters Margie Wilson, Oshawa Ontario, Heather (Kenneth) McDavid, Matapedia QC and Nancy (Ritchie) Duncan, Tide Head, NB, her sons Allan (Valerie Mallon) Edmonton, Alberta and Daryl Vancouver, BC, her sister Lillian Smith Glen Levit, NB. Also survived by her five grandchildren Thomas, Kevin and Michael Roy, Melissa and Amy McDavid, three great-grandchildren Jackson, Emily and Austin.

Predeceased by her parents, husband Donald Wilson, four brothers Lloyd, Stanley, Allie and Billy, one sister Ruby and one grandson Jonathan.

The funeral service was held from Maher's Funeral Chapel Campbellton on Friday, April 9th at 1pm. Pastor Douglas Phillips officiating. Interment at Matapedia Protestant Cemetery this spring. Pallbearers were Thomas, Kevin and Michael Roy, Angus Smith, Allie Wilson and Eddie Quann. Funeral arrangements were in the care of Maher's Funeral Home, Campbellton.

Murray Albert Savoy

Murray Albert Savoy, 84 of Dalhousie, N.B., died on Wednesday, April 7, 2010.

Born in Dalhousie, he was the son of the late Peter A. and Florine (Valdron) Savoy.

Murray joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1943 at the age of 16, serving mostly on the corvette HMCS Halifax performing convoy duty. He sailed across the Atlantic countless times between ports in Canada, the U.K., Gibraltar, Bermuda and the Azores. After the war, he returned to Dalhousie and worked at the NBIP mill until retirement in 1987. Murray married Lillian Cantin in 1952 and became the father of three children Kevin, Sharon and Shelley. Murray was active in a variety of community and sports organizations, including the Royal Canadian Legion's Dalhousie branch. But outside of his family, golf was his true passion. Murray was a former president and lifetime member of the Restigouche Golf and Country Club. He was a natural at all sports and games and was well known in the Dalhousie area.

In later years after Murray was predeceased by Lillian in 1993, Murray's life focused on his growing family, golf and wintering in Florida. He was also predeceased by a sister Dorothy and four brothers Howard, Willard, Wallace and Richard. He is survived by three children, Kevin (Denise) of Dalhousie, Sharon (Michael) of Toronto and Shelley (Henrick) of Ottawa, and eight grandchildren Geoffrey, Kristopher, Alastair, Emily, Todd, Patrick, Tristan, and Annika, a sister Vivian and a special friend Vera Wood.

The funeral service was held from the Saint John Bosco Church in Dalhousie on Wednesday, April 14th at 11am. Father Bill Arseneault officiating. Interment will be at the Parish Cemetery this spring. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart & Stroke foundation would be appreciated by his family. Gonzague Bernard

Passed away at the Campbellton Regional Hospital on April 11, 2010 at the age of 84, Mr. Gonzague Bernard.

Born in Balmoral on August 26, 1925, he was the son of the late Thomas Bernard and the late Marie Louise Lamontagne. He leaves to mourn his sisters Laurette McIntyre from Dalhousie, Annette (Albert) Richardson Ottawa, Margot Drapeau Balmoral, Frances (Bruno) Rousseau Ottawa, Gilberte Bernard Ottawa and Odélie McIntyre Trois Rivières, his brothers Rhéal (Simonne) from Moncton, Alphé Campbellton, Guy (Raymonde) Balmoral, Lauréat (Rosalie) Atholville and Gilbert (Murielle) Balmoral. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents and sister Hilda.

The funeral mass was held from St. Benoit Church Balmoral on Thursday, April 15th at 4pm. Father Léo Lanteigne officiating. Interment at the Parish Cemetery this spring. Funeral arrangements were in the care of Maher's Funeral Home, Balmoral.

Brenda Vick-Fiola
1951 - 2010

At the Campbellton Regional Hospital on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at the age of 58, passed away Brenda Vick-Fiola of Campbellton, partner of Jean-Luc Landry.

She was the daughter of late George Vick and late Beatrice Normandeau. She will be sadly missed by her partner, Jean-Luc Landry of Campbellton; her daughter, Tracy Fiola (Jeff Barnaby) of Campbellton; her grandsons: Ashton & Jordan; her sister, Sheila Aumeerally (Farouk) of Campbellton; her brothers: Bill Vick of Campbellton & Edgar Vick (Betty) of Moncton. She is also survived by some nieces, nephews and several aunt & uncles.

The funeral mass was held on Saturday, April 10, 2010 in the St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Campbellton and officiated by Father William Arseneault with burial in the parish cemetery later in the spring. A donation to the Palliative Care Unit of the Campbellton Regional Hospital would be greatly appreciated by the family.
