Mary Ellen (Ella) Demeau 

The death of Mary Ellen (Ella) Demeau of the Village Nursing Home, Campbellton, occurred December 18, 2001 at her residence.

She was born in Kent Junction, N.B. on February 27, 1910 to Philip Vautour and Grace Mazerolle and had been a member of the Eastern Star, Ladies Auxiliary, Rebecca Lodge.

She is survived by her son, William K. (Bill) Demeau, wife Marlene, of Campbellton; three grandchildren, Sydney of Campbellton, Kevin of Miramichi, and Bill Jr. of Montreal; a nephew, Brian McNeish of Halifax; and two cousins, Wally Vautour and James McIntyre, both of Campbellton.

She was predeceased by her parents and her husband, William Kenneth Demeau Sr.


Frederick (Fred) Joseph Kelly

The death of Frederick (Fred) Joseph Kelly of 174 Lansdowne Street, Campbellton occurred in Campbellton on December 22, 2001 at the age of 80.

He was born in Campbellton on November 12, 1921 to Thomas Kelly and Margaret Kaine and had been retired from Canadian National Railway after 35 years of service. He attended Christ Church Anglican, Campbellton and served the congregation as an usher-greeter and teller. He belonged to the Royal Canadian Legion, the Hong Kong Veterans Association and was president of the Campbellton branch of the Kidney Foundation.

During Wolrd War Two, he served with the Royal Rifles of Canada from 1940 to 1946 and was a prisoner of war (Hong Kong) from 1941 to 1945.

He was the last surviving member of his family and is survived by his wife, Marion Miller of Campbellton; his sons Michael (Mike) Kelly (Flora) of Campbellton and Patrick (Pat) Kelly (Karen) of LaSalle, Ontario; his grandchildren Timothy Kelly of Tide Head, Stephanie Kelly of LaSalle, Ontario and Trevor Kelly of LaSalle, Ontarion and great granddaughter Melinda Kelly.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his mother Roy Kelly, his sisters Katherine Ross, Ellen Ramsay, May Doyle and Nora (Black) Murray, son Steven Kelly (1970) and daughter Heather Kelly (1998).

Wilfred Gerald Roy 

The death of Wilfred Gerald Roy of Campbellton occurred December 24, 2001 in Campbellton at the age of 77.

He was born in Campbellton on June 11, 1924 to John Arthur Roy and Laura May Sullivan and had worked as a farmer.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn McCabe Roy of Campbellton; three daughters, Susan Roy of Lachine, Qc., Lori Roy and Jennifer Roy-Connel, both of Vancouver, BC; one son, Weldon Roy of San Jose, California; sisters Dorothy Ward of Miscou Island and Laura Marie Dawson of Vancouver; brothers John Sullivan Roy of Grand Falls, NB and, charles Austin Roy of Oshawa, On; and grandchildren Vanessa, Karyne and Benjamin Roy.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Mona McCurdy of Dalhousie.

Ian Petersen 

The death of Ina Petersen of Dalhousie Nursing Home occurred at the St. Joseph Hospital on December 27, 2001 at the age of 76.

She was born in Naadrup, Denmark on April 23, 1925 to Paul Pedersen and Johanna Jensen.

She was survived by her children, Douglas (Christine) of Charlo, Christen (Yvette) of Ottawa, David (Alma) of Ottawa, Anne (Peter ) Yaremocvz of St. Catherines, Ontario, Larry (Coleen) of Charlo, LInda (Robert) Labell of Cornwall, Ontario, Joe (Helen) of Charlo, Thomas (Velma) of Dalhousie and Pauline (Donald) Bernard of McLeods; her brother Ove Pedersen of Burts Corner; her sisters Eva Petersen of Dalhousie, Mary Johnsen of New Denmark, N.B., Harriet Hanson of Salisbury and Katie (Don) McNally of Aroostook Junction; and by 24 grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents, her husband William and by her brothers Eric, Henry and Erling.

Olive Janet Ross 

The local community, and areas near and far, were shocked and saddened to learn of the death on December 18, 2001 of Mrs. Olive J. Ross, which occurred at the Campbellton Regional Hospital at the age of 93. Her final illness was of three weeks duration.

Mrs. Ross was born in Campbellton, on August 20, 1908, the daughter of the late Frank Charlong and the late Elizabeth Robinson, and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She was a woman of sterling character and was loved by all who knew her, as was evident by the attendance at the funeral home and funeral service. She loved her family dearly - her children, grandchildren and great-grandchild was born the day following her death - Tanner Colin Ross was born to grandson Bradley and his wife Angela - the first great- grandchild to carry on the Ross name.

Mrs. Ross was predeceased by her husband, John B. Ross, on November 3, 1958, and as early as six and a half months ago by her daughter Joyce Carter on July 1. Also predeceased are her parents, her ten siblings and an infant grandson in 1960.

Those left to mourn are her six children: Maxine Bain and Jackson at the family home; Shirley MacKinnon of Campbellton; Marion Cavanaugh (Alan) of Moncton; Daryl (Tammy) of Campbellton and Barry of Glencoe, N.B.; 8 grandchildren: Randy Carter, Pat Cavanaugh, Melody MacKinnon, John MacKinnon, Mary-Lou (MacKinnon) Duguay, Brent Ross, Bradley Ross and Darla Ross; 9 great-grandchildren; Aaron MacKinnon, Jessica Boucher, Jennifer and Ashley Duguay, Kourtney and Jordan Carter, Tanner Ross; and Cory Letourneau and Christopher Boucher whom she considered to be grat-grandsons; 3 sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

A long standing member of Christ Church (Anglican) for over 70 years - the same church in which she was married and had her children baptized - the funeral service was held in that church on Friday December 21, at 2pm.


Lilian M. Troy Widow of Judge - Mother of Bishop

Lilian M. Troy Dies in 101st Year

The death of Lilian M. Troy of Rocmaura Nursing Home in Saint John, widow of the late Judge M. Thomas Troy of Campbellton, occurred at her residence on Saturday, December 8, 2001, in her 101st year.

Born in Chatham, N.B. on February 2, 1901, she was the younest child of Edward A. and Mary Elizabeth (O'Kane) Barry and the last remaining member of her family. Formerly of Campbellton, where she had lived for more than 50 years, she had resided in Saint John for the last 17 years of her life.

She was predeceased by her husband, her oldest son, Lt. (P) Barry Troy, RCN, and son-in-law Joseph Berry, five brothers, Thomas, James, Edward, John and Hebert Barry, and by four sisters, Mary (Dr. Arthur) Losier, Annie (William) Condon, Theresa (Omer) Guidry, and Kathleen (Bert) Irving.

She is survived by two sons, Most Rev. J. Edward Troy, Bishop Emeritus of Saint John, and W. Richard (Pauline) Troy of Santa Monica, CA., two daughters, Nora "Mickey", Mrs Wallace Russell of Mission, B.C., and Mrs. Sandra Berry of Guelph, On., eleven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild, and by many dear nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces.
