Paul J. Chamberlain

The death of Paul J. Chamberlain; of the Dalhousie Nursing Home, husband of the late Leona Martin, occurred at his residence on January 1, 2002.

He was born in Bathurst on June 27, 1917 to the late Alfred Chamberlain and the late Philomene Roy, He had worked as an electrical inspector for the Province of New Brunswick.

He is survived by his sons, Lee (Judy) Chamberlain of Charlo and Hugh Chamberlain of Saint John; his sister, Ella (Gerard) LeBreton of Dalhousie; his grandchildren, Chris Chamberlain of Fredericton, Jason Chamberlain of Montreal and Troy Chamberlain of Edmundston; and one great-granddaughter, Eve Chamberlain of Montreal.

Funeral services were held January 4 from St. John Bosco Church, Dalhousie with Rev. Chamberlain officiating. Interment in St. John Baptist Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were in the care of Maher's Funeral Home, Campbellton.

Guy Drapeau

The death of Guy Drapeau of Eel River Crossing occurred January 22, 2002 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Dalhousie.

He was born in Eel River Crossing on July 10, 1931 to the late Philippe Drapeau and the late Anna Tardif and had worked at NBIP.

He is survived by his wife, Eileen Godin Drapeau; his children, Deborah Drapeau of Windsor, Ontario, Jo-Ann Drapeau of Edmonton, Alberta, Brigitte Savoie of Eel River Crossing, Sophia Fox of Seaside, Lisa Drapeau of Val D'Amour, Maniel Drapeau of Halifax, Stephen Drapeau of Eel River Crossing and Delano Drapeau of Edmonton; his sisters, Isabelle Bernard of Iselin, New Jersey, Patricia Gyuk of Fredericton and Sylvia Levesque of Eel River Crossing, his brother, Sylvio Drapeau of Dalhousie; eight grandchildren, Marc-André, Anna, Kevin, Kyle, Greg, Kaitlin, Arthur and Kelsey and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by brothers Adrien and Odina Drapeau.

Funeral services were held from Holy Trinity Church, Eel River Crossing, on January 25, officiated by Rev. Arseneau. Interment in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Eel River Crossing.

Pallbearers were Greg Drapeau, Kevin Drapeau, Marc-André Savoie, Delano Drapeau, Stephen Drapeau and Maniel Drapeau.

Funeral arrangements were in the care of Maher's Funeral Home, Campbellton. 

Mrs. Gladys (Poley) Gauthier Kelly

The death of Mrs. Gladys (Poley) Gauthier of Granisle, B.C. occurred in December of 2001.

She was the daughter of the late Perley and Janie (Pratt) Jagoe of Atholville and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She leaves to mourn two sons, David Poley of British Columbia and Barry Poley of Manitoba.

Evelyn Ault

Evelyn Charlotte (DeWolfe) Ault, a resident of the Dalhousie Nursing Home and formerly of Blackland, went to her heavenly rest on Tuesday, January 8, 2002.

Born in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia on March 19, 1915, she was the daughter of William DeWolfe and Olive (Parker) DeWolfe. Evelyn spent her childhood years living in Rexton, New Brunswick, an adopted daughter of Mrs. Carrie Weston. At the age of 17 she moved to New Mills to be a companion-housekeeper for Rev. and Mrs. G. T. Sears. Shortly after, she met and married her best friend and faithful husband, Robert. They lived in Blackland until, due to ill health, they both entered the nursing home.

Evelyn leaves to mourn two daughters, one son and their spouses: Joyce Pettigrew of New Mills, Juanita and Paul Doucet of Charlo and Robert and Bernice Ault of Bridgewater, Nova Scotia; 14 grandchildren and 11 greatgrandchildren . Also nieces and nephews, friends and neighbours.

Evelyn was predeceased by her husband Robert and a daughter, JoAnne Hamilton of Charlo.

Funeral arrangements were in the care of MacMillan's Funeral Home, Black Point A memorial service will be held at a later date with interment in the family plot at New Mills cemetery in the spring.

A true friend you could never find, A wife and a mother, she was one of a kind.

But God needed her, and if the truth be known; She is singing with dad around God's great throne.

William Francis Savoy

The death of William Francis Savoy of Campbellton occurred at the Campbellton Regional Hospital on January 26, 2002 at the age of 81.

He was born in Chatham on November 7, 1920 to the late William J. Savoy and the late Mary O'Niell and had worked for the Fraser Company. He was also and avid hunter and storyteller.

He is survived by his wife Olga of Campbellton, daughters Gail (Charles) Couzens of Bruton, England, Judy Savoy-MacDonald of London, Ontario, Ann (Jim) MacKelvie of Pictou, Nova Scotia, sons Tom (Maureen) Savoy of Missisauga, Ontario and Neil (Heather) Savoy of Halifax, Nova Scotia, sisters Anna Savoy of Atholville and Marion White of Campbellton, brother Jim Savoy of Atholville and grandchildren Stephen, Jeffrey. Jenna and Lynn Savoy, Conor and Ben MacDonald and Andrew and Erin MacKelvie.

He was predeceased by daughter Nancy and brothers Harold and Tom.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. this moring from St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Campbellton with Father Arseneau officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.

Pallbearers are Steven Hutchinson, Keith White, David Savoy, Gordie Harris, Earl Hennessy and Louis St. Laurent

J. L. Alonzo Paradis

The death of J. L. Alonzo Paradis of 296 King Street, Dalhousie, occurred January 28, 2002 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Dalhousie at the age of 70.

He was born in Balmoral on October 16, 1931 to John Paradis and Adelia Pelletier and had worked for the woodlands division of NBIP. He belonged to the Dalhousie Golden Age Club and was an outdoorsman, an avid gardener and avid fisherman.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys Bernard of Dalhousie; daughters Rosalie MacDonald (Brian) of Saint John and Lisa Boudreault (Martin) of Halifax; son John Paradis of Halifax; sisters Opal Maloney (Earl) of Dalhousie, France Seguin (Gerald) of Montreal and Raymonde Poirier (Bernard) of Maisonette; brother Adrien Paradis (Collette) of Montreal; grand-children Shannon, Kayla, André, Olivia, Justin and Jordan and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Raymond.

Funeral services will be held this morning (Wednesday) at 11:00 a.m. from St. John Bosco Church, Dalhousie with Rev. E. Chamberlain officiating. Interment in the spring.

Active pallbearers are Brian MacDonald, Earl Maloney, Martin Boudreault, Herman Godin, Aurele Mercier and Teddy St. Pierre. Honourary pallbearers are Joey Furlotte, Gerald Seguin, Bernard Poirier, Jules Paradis, Rhéal Bérubé, Paul Normandeau.

Donation may be given to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Donat Carrier

The death of Donat Carrier of Murdochville and formerly of Lorne, husband of the late Opal Mallaley occurred at St. Joseph's Hospital, Dalhousie on January 23, 2002 at the age of 71.

He was born in Lorne to Alexander Carrier and Lucy LaPointe and had worked for 34 Years as a smelter operator at the Gaspé Copper Mines.

He is survived by his companion and friend, Eunice McGregor, daughters Annette Willett (Dennis) of Cambridge, Ontario, Jeanette McLellan (Donald) of Murdochville, Sandra (Sweetpea) Dube of Innisfil, Ontario; Lisa Carrier (Gerald) of Innisfil Ontario; sons Vernon (Germaine) of Eel River Crossing, Dale (Paulanne) of Longlac, Ontario, Donald (Heidi) of Etobicoke, Ontario, Eugene (Lynne) of Port Daniel, Quebec and Don Lee of Innisfil, Ontario; sister, Lucy; stepsisters Elizabeth and Beatrice; brothers Celestin and Alex; stepbrothers Sanford, William and David Hickey, 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, Opal; parents, Alexander and Lucy; stepbrother Henry hickey, stepsisters Theresa Lavigne, Marion Firlotte and Adelia Smith.

Funeral services were held January 26 from St Marie Goretti Church, Lorne.

Pallbearers were T-Guy Carrier, Gerald Carrier, Roy Hickey, Allie Lapointe, Alphonse Hickey and Adolphe Hickey.

Funeral arrangements were in the care of MacMillan's Funeral Home, Black Point.

Valmont Vallée

Relatives and friends were saddened to learn of the death of Mr. Valmont Vallée which occurred at the Quebec Hotel Dieu Hospital on January 4, 2002 at the age of 80.

He is survived by his wife Azilda Gagnon; his daughters, Lucille (André Roy), Lucie (Marcel Descelles), Estelle (Elzéar Vallée), Ginette (Patrick Duchene), Nathalie (Denis Latour), Edith (Eric Perron); his sons, Jean-Marc (Louisette), Victor (Daniel), Nicolas (Pierrette), Michel (Marie-Marthe), Yvon (Ruby), Daniel (Patricia) Roger (Danielle), Yves (Guy-Anne), Sylvain (Valérie) Vallée; his sisters, Ida and Oviette; his brothers, Alfred and Théodore; 36 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his sister Alida and his brother Odina.

The funeral Mass was held January 18, 2002 from Notre Dame de la Garde Church, Pointe-a-la-Garde.

Pallbearers were Victor, Nicholas, Michel, Yvon, Daniel, Roger and Yves Vallée.

Honourary pallbearers were Lucille, Estelle, Lucie, Ginette, Nathalie and Edith Vallée.

Funeral arrangements were placed in the professional care of Chaleur Funeral Home, 47 Alexander Street, Campbellton. 

Mrs. Evelyn Arseneault

The death of Mrs. Evelyn Arseneault of 405 Goderich Street, Dalhousie occurred in Dalhousie on January 28, 2002 at the age of 65.

She was born in Balmoral on February 2, 1936 to Angus Fontaine and Celina Ouellette and was a home maker.

She is survived by her husband, William Richard Arseneault; her daughters Fernande Mallet of Dalhousie, Marleen Arseneault of Dundee and Eileen Arseneault of Eel River Bar; her sons, William Arseneault Jr. of Dundee, David Arseneault of Dundee and Bobby Arseneault of Dalhousie; her sisters Anna LaMontagne of Atholville and Hectorine Fontaine of Toronto; her brothers, Lucien Fontaine of Eel River Crossing, Adoris Fontaine of Charlo and James Fontaine of Balmoral and 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents.

Funeral services were held January 30 from St.John the Baptist Church, Dalhousie with Rev. Y. Doiron officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery in the spring.

Funeral arrangements were in the care of Maher's Funeral Home, Dalhousie.

Jeannine Moffat

Relatives and friends were sadden to learn of the death of Mrs. Jeannine Moffat which occurred at St. Joseph's Hospital, Dalhousie on January 19, 2002 at the age of 63.

She is survived by her husband Harvey Moffat; her mother Adelia Drapeau; her daughters, Suzanne and Mona-Lee; her sons, Donald (Tammy), Jimmy (Lyne), Ian (Kim) and Larry; her sisters, Celine (Pierre Leblanc), Diane (The late Jean Gendreau), and Leona (Gordon Ouellette); her brothers; Jean-Paul (Hermeline) and Leo Drapeau; also six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral Mass was held February 21 from St. Jean Vianny Church, Dundee.

Pallbearers were Donald, Jimmy, Ian, Larry, Suzanne and Mona-Lee Moffat and Paul Leblanc.

Funeral arrangements were placed in the professional care of Chaleur Funeral Home, 47 Alexander Street, Campbellton.

Sylvère Gallant

Relatives and friends were saddened to learn of the death of Mr. Sylvère Gallant, husband of the late Lucille Jean, which occurred at the Campbellton Regional Hospital on January 15, 2002 at the age of 84.

He is survived by his daughters, Denise (Roger Bourque) of Moncton, Lucille McLenaghan of Flatlands, Nancy (Romeo Boivin) of Campbellton, Pierrette (Wayne Milly) of Campbellton, Louise Gallant of Hull; his sons, Jacques (Josette) of Montreal and Jean Yves (Sylvie) of McLeods; his sisters, Dalia (late Adrien Jean) of Campbellton, Marie (Fernand Levasseur) of Montreal, Léonie (Gerald Robert) of Moncton; his brothers, Ernest (Laura) of Atholville), Phil (late Lucienne) of Campbellton; 12 great-grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his sisters Zita and Janie and also his brothers Frank, Normand and Alfred.

Funeral Mass was held January 17 from Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes Church, Atholville.

Pallbearers were Pierre Martin, Jacques Gallant, Anthony Gallant, Robert McLenaghan, Rachel Gallant and Caroline McGrath.

Funeral arrangements were in the professional care of Chaleur Funeral Home, 47 Alexander Street, Campbellton.

J.Octave Fontaine

The death of J. Octave Fontaine of Eel River Crossing occurred at St. Joseph's Hospital, Dalhousie, on January 23, 2002.

He was born in Balmoral on January 3, 1931 to the late Angus Fontaine and Celina Ouellette and had worked in the groundwood division of NBIP.

He is survived by his wife, Marie Savoie and his children, Docile Fontaine of Mountain Brook, Claudette Fontaine of Eel River Crossing, Monique Joncas of Eel River Crossing, Violette Fournier of Balmoral, Gilles Fontaine of Niagara Falls, Huguette Fontaine of Ottawa, Etienne Fontaine of Niagara Falls, Yves Fontaine of Niagara Falls, Robert Fontaine of Darlington and Annie Fontaine of Eel River Crossing.

He was predeceased by his parents, Angus and Celina.

The funeral Mass was held from Holy Trinity Church, Eel River Crossing, on January 26, officiated by Father Bill Arseneau.

Funeral arrangements were in the care of Maher's Funeral Home, Balmoral.
