J. Hector Diotte
Balmoral councillor mourned
The death of J. Hector Diotte of Balmoral occurred on February 13, 2002 at the Campbellton Regional Hospital at the age of 58.
He was born in Dalhousie on July 30, 1943 to Philibert Diotte and Alexina Dugas and had worked at Scierie Adrien Arseneault.
He is survived by his ex-wife, Elodie, his common-law wife, Gemma Firlotte of Balmoral; his mother, Alexina Diotte-MacGraw of Dalhousie; his son, Danik of Campbellton; his sisters, Hectorine Diotte-Poirier of Dalhousie, Marcelline (Eudore) Bernard of Balmoral and Debbie (Levis) Pelletier of Campbellton; his brothers, Marcel (Aurore) of Balmoral, Jean-Marc (Heather) Dalhousie and Edouard (Patsy) McGraw, and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, Phillibert.
Funeral services were held on February 16 from Saint Benoit Church, Balmoral with Father Lanteigne officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.
Pallbearers were his son, Danik, and his nephews, Stephane, Reno, Christian, Pascal and Chad.
Funeral arrangements were in the care of Maher's Funeral Home, Balmoral.
Blanchette, M. Dianna
It is with great sorrow that the family of Marie Dianna Blanchette (Letourneau) announces her passing on Sunday, January 13, 2002 in Ottawa, Ontario. She was surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Dalhousie on October 30, 1938 to Marie Anne and the late Kenneth Letourneau.
She is survived by her husband Joseph Guy Blanchette and her two daughters Monique (Dan) Brasloff of Montreal and Sylvie (David) Mulvihill of Ottawa. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Mackenzie, Olivia, Luke, Lana and Michelle. She is survived by her three brothers Guy (Frances) Letourneau, Edward and William (Aline) of Dalhousie and three sisters Frances (Reid) MacPherson, Lillian Letourneau of Dalhousie and Joan Letourneau (Paul Robinson) of Ottawa.
She is predeceased by her sister Myrna (Samir) Ahad of Ottawa.
She will be fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews and friends.
The funeral took place in Dalhousie, New Brunswick on January 18, 2002. St. Paul wrote about his own life:
"I fought the good fight and I ran the good race.
From now on the coveted crown awaits me."
Raymond Mallaley
The death of Raymond Mallaley of Lorne, husband of Antoinette (Furlotte) occurred at St. Joseph's Hospital, Dalhousie on February 14, 2002 at the age of 80.
He was born in Lorne to Tom Mallaley and Claire (Carrier) and was a veteran member of Jacquet River Legion Branch 77 and had served overseas.
He is survived by his wife Antoinette, daughter Donna Hickey of Lorne, sons Auley (Hugette) of Lorne, and Claude of Saint John, sister Mary Emma Lapointe of Fredericton, brothers Edward, Alexander and David, all of Lorne and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held from St. Marie Goretti Church on February 16. The remains have been placed in the parish vault.
Pallbearers were Chris Mallaley, Donald Hickey, Ronnie Esliger, Ricky Esliger, Jason Hickey and Guarance Furlotte.
Funeral arrangements were in the care of MacMillan's Funeral Home, Black Point.
Mary Audet
The death of Mary Audet of Belledune, widow of the late Donat Audet, occurred February 2, 2002 at Saint Joseph's Hospital, Dalhousie at the age of 73.
She was born in Nash Creek to John Hickey and Elexia Carrier.
She is survived by daughters Linda (Raymond) Doyle of Mitchell. Joyce (Melford) Dempsey of Mitchell and Karen (Reginald) Dempsey of Mitchell; sons Donat of Belledune and Peter (Glenda of Jacquet River; brothers Ralph of Archibald, Charles (Brenda) of Nash Creek, William (Anne) of Quispamsis and Patrick (Theresa) of Nauwigewauk; 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Donat, her parents and several brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were held from St. Joseph's Church, Nash Creek on February 5 with Father Lionel Comeau officiating.
Servers were Sheila Noel and Marina Carrier. Readings were given by Lori Dickie and Janet Lapointe. Prayer of the Faithful (Intercessions) were given by Sister Edna Fraser, the eulogy was written and given by granddaughter Natasha Audet. Beautiful Hymns: Amazing Grace, Isiah 49, My Shepherd is the Lord, Beyond the Sunset were sung by the Nash Creek choir, Lance O'Brien sang the hymn Gathering Flowers for the Master's Bouquet. All were family friends.
Pallbearers were Michel and Garry Legacy, Mark, Bart and Jonathon Dempsey, cousins Francis and Vernon Carrier and son Peter.
Honourary pallbearers were Shelly Legacy, Malanie Lapointe, Angie Dempsey, Natasha Audet, Angelica Audet, Meghann Roy, Jamira Chiasson, Brieann Simonson Dempsey, and Jasmine Dempsey.
Funeral arrangements were in the care of MacMillan's Funeral Home, Black Point.
Mary Eva Hickey
The death of Mary Eva Hickey of Jacquet River, widow of the late Delphis Hickey, occurred February 8, 2002 at the Dalhousie Nursing Home at the age of 91.
She was born in Jacquet River to Frank Young and Elizabeth Guitard. She attended St. Gabriel's Church and was a member of the St. Gabriels's C.W.L for 70 years. She also belonged to the Ladies Auxiliary, the Legion of Mary. St. Gabriel's Catholic Women and the Golden Age Club.
She is survived by daughters Mildred Quigley (Calvin) of Newmarket, Ontario and Ann Firlotte (Bev) of Jacquet River, sisters Gertrude Guitard (Hector) of Jacquet River and Janie Driscoll of Rochester, New York, brothers Victor (Marge) of B.C. and Bernard of Bathurst and seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews..
She was predeceased by her husband Delphis, sisters Lena Guitard and Florence Donner, brothers Joe, Leonard, Raymond, Alvin and Lawrence.
Funeral services were held from St. Gabriel's Church, Jacquet River on February 12.
Pallbearers were Wayne and Jeff Firlotte, Laurie and Joey Frenette, Travis Carrier and Lawrence Guitard.
Funeral arrangements were in the care of MacMillan's Funeral Home, Black point.
Charles Chiasson
The death of Charles Chiasson of Dalhousie occurred on February 8, 2002 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Dalhousie at the age of 63.
He was born in Dalhousie on July 29, 1938 to Albert and Sarah Chiasson. He had been a school bus driver for district 15 for about 20 years and belonged to the Golden Age Club and Royal Canadian Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Jeannine Thériault; his daughters, Joanne (Michael Furlotte) and Nancy, both of Dalhousie; his son, Michael (Vikki) of Lower Sackville, N.S.; his sisters, Mabel (Edwin) Gray and Donna (Guy) Palmater, both of Dalhousie; his brothers, Bill (Linda) of Delhi, Ontario and Randy of Seaforth, Ontario; his grandchildren, Devon Guitard, Nathan Furlotte and Dersten Chiasson, and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Shirley Collens.
Funeral services were held from St. John Bosco church, Dalhousie, on February 12 with Father Chamberlain officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery in the spring.
Funeral arrangements were in the care of Maher's Funeral Home, Dalhousie.
Joseph Harold Berthelot
The death of Joseph Harold Berthelot of 84 Arran Street, Campbellton occurred on February 15, 2002 at the Campbellton Regional Hospital.
He was born in Pointe-à-la-Croix on October 28, 1923 to Onesiphore Berthelot and Lucy Carroll and had worked as a commercial salesman and business owner for 36 years. He was a past senior councillor of the U.C.T.
He is survived by his wife, Joan McEwen; his daughters, Julie Adams of Spruce Grove, Alberta, Carolyn Bertsch of Mississauga, Ontario, Linda Berthelot (John Currie) of Campbellton, Cheryl Duguay (Richard Duguay) of Lethbridge, Alberta, Lisa Jacques (Craig Jacques) of Restigouche, Quebec, and Cindy Berthelot of Manchester, Connecticut; his sons, Michael Berthelot (Mona Sirois) of Campbellton, Paul Berthelot (Carole Landry) of Campbellton and Pat Berthelot of Clinton, Ontario; his sisters Elizabeth Collard of Jonquiere, Quebec, Marie Gallant of Pointe-à-la-Croix, Quebec; his brothers, Victor Berthelot of Scarborough, Ontario and Leo Berthelot of Campbellton; his 15 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents.
Funeral services were held from St. Thomas Aquinas church, Campbellton. Interment in the parish cemetery.
Pallbearers were Roland Corriveau, Jack Laviolette, Herbie Martin, Wallace McEwan, Charles Picard and Ben Vicaire.
Donations may be given to a charity of the donor's choice.

Irene LePage
The death of Irene LePage of 14 McGarvie Street, Campbellton, occurred at the Campbellton Regional Hospital on February 7, 2002.
She was born in Campbellton on March 3, 1926 to Alfred Pelletier and Marguerite Villeneuve and was a cook.
She is survived by her daughters, Leona and Aline; her sons, Georges (Rose-Marie) and Guy (Elaine Ramsay); grandchildren Jeanne (Sherman) Carrier, Chantale (Robert) Keays, Emelie Ranger LePage and Eliette Ranger LePage and her great-grand-daughter, Nadine Carrier.
She was predeceased by her parents, sisters Marguerite Paradis and Elizabeth Savoie and by brothers Albert LaJoie and Freddy Pelletier.
Funeral services were held from Our Lady of Snows Church, Campellton on February 9 with Father Morrison officiating. Interment in Our Lady of Snows Church.
Funeral arrangements were in the care of Maher's Funeral Home, Campbellton.
Laurina Gerard Dunn
The death of Laurina Gerard Dunn, of Dawsonville, wife of the late Sterling Dunn Sr., occurred February 14, 2002 at the Campbellton Regional Hospital.
She was born in Matapedia, Quebec on July 13, 1936 to George Gerard and Muriel Irvine and was a housewife.
She is survived by her daughters, Muriel DeVrie Dunn of Oshawa, Coralee (Allan) irvine of Glen Levit, Esther (Dale) Tremblett of Toronto and Alice (Steve) Mitchell of Toronto; her sons, George (Connie) Dunn of Winnipeg, Wayman and Earl Dunn of Dawsonville, Sterling (Edith) of Dawsonville and Terry (Sally) of Campbellton; her sisters, Dorothy (Allie) Firth of Toronto and Marie Mykietick of Mississauga; her brothers Jackie (Doris) Gerard of Mann Settlement and Kenny (Ellen) Gerard of Regina, Saskatchewan; her 18 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Sterling Dunn Sr. and her parents, George and Muriel (Irvine) Gerald.
Funeral services were held from Maherès Funeral Chapel on Rfebruary 18 with Rev. Andrew Fraser with interment in the Dawsonville Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Allie Dunn, Ralph Nicol, Randy Thompson, Timmy Firth, Gerald Hennigar and Roger Pollock.
Honourary pallbearers were Billy Thompson, Burns Irvine, Joseph Hennigar, Jackie Letourneau, Roy Thompson snd Clifford Perron.
Funeral services were in the care of Magerès Funeral Home, Campbellton.
Mary Emma Carrier
The death of Mary Emma Carrier occurred February 17th at Saint Josephs Hospital in Dalhousie at the age of 86.
Born in Nash Creek, she was the daughter of William Hickey and Emma (Carrier)
She is survived by eight sons, Eugene of Ontario, Jack of Nash Creek, Gabriel of Alberta, Joe of Ontario, Wayne of Moncton, Steve of Saint John, Claude of Jacquet River and Kirk of Nash Creek; six daughters, Emmalen Harvey of Nash Creek, Mabel Hickey of Archibald, Eva LaPointe of Nash Creek, Christine Lavigne of Bathurst Martha Moreau of Ontario and June Furlotte of Jacquet River. She is also survived by one sister, Charlotte Eva Walton of Nova Scotia. She has many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husbands, Wilfred Carrier and Angus LaPointe. She is also predeceased by two sons, Leonard and Francis, and two brothers, William Hickey Jr. and Oliver Hickey.
Her funeral will be held Saturday, February 23rd at 11:00 a.m. from St. Josephs Church, Nash Creek.

J. Gregory Harquail
The death of J. Gregory Harquail of 103 Lavigne Lane, Dalhousie, occurred February 15 at Saint Josephs Hospital, Dalhousie at the age of 60.
He was born in Dalhousie on January 18, 1942 to Peter Harquail and May Martin and had worked as an electrical technician for N.B. Power.
He is survived by his wife, Judith Lavigne Harquail of Dalhousie; his mother, May Martin of Campbellton; his daughter, Bella Harquail of Dalhousie; his sister, Doreen Valdron of Dalhousie, his half-sister, Betty Anna Aube of Campbellton; his half-brother, Peter Martin of Campbellton; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, Peter Harquail.
Funeral services were held on February 18 from St. John Bosco Church, Dalhousie with Rev. E Chamberlain officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery in the spring.
Funeral arrangements were in care of Mahers Funeral Home, Dalhousie.
