Elie Wallace Martin (Wally Moon)
It is with my deepest sadness to announce the death of my Dad, Elie Wallace Martin, known to all as Wally Moon. Wally passed on suddenly at the Campbellton Regional Hospital on Wednesday, July 8th, 2009. He was born on May 15, 1936, in a Mi'gmaq reserve called Listuguj, to the late William P. Martin and Emma Condo. His love of music brought him to play in many bands such as: The Country Boys, Mighty Mohawks, Country Classics, Rarebreed, and other bands along with many other talented musicians. It wasn't long after playing with the Mighty Mohawks that Wally developed the reputations as the singing, dancing, guitar-picking man. A true entertainer at heart, Wally had the gift to lighten any mood with his many one liners and comical behaviour. The music world will deeply miss him. Wally is survived by his daughter Connie Moon Martin of Listuguj, along with another daughter Cindy Martin, from a previous marriage. He is also survived by his brothers Mathew Martin, Alfred Condo Martin, and William P. Martin Jr. (Billy Boy); and his sisters Francis Margie Martin, and Dorothy Lee Martin. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. In addition to his parents, Wally was sadly preceded in death eight months prior by my Mom, his wife and companion for 45 years, Elsie Langlois (Ellie Martin). He was also preceded in death by his three brothers Albert Daniel Martin (Slim), Walter James Martin, and John J. Martin (Johnny Bone); sister Bernice Anne Martin and infant brother and sister. Funeral services were held at the St. Anne's Church in Listuguj on July 13, 2009 at 11:00 am with officiating clergy Father E. Landry. Pallbearers were nephews Ronnie Martin, Brian (Moon) Bulmer, Steve Bulmer, and Rene Martin. Following the services a Celebration of Music was held in Wally's honour at the bingo hall where many friends and family gathered to pay their last respects by sharing the gift of music. Funeral arrangements were in the care of Maher's Funeral Home, Campbellton. Dad, you will be forever in my heart; and it gives me great peace knowing you and Mom are together again. I love and miss you both!
