Marcel Doucet 

The death of Marcel Doucet of 8 King Street, Campbellton occurred July 30, 2001 at the Campbellton Regional Hospital at the age of 46.

He was born May 2, 1955 to the late Amédée Doucet and to Lucille Boudreau Doucet. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the UCT and was an avid nature lover and fisherman who loved to canoe on the Restigouche River.

He is survived by his wife Angie Nuttall-Doucet, his mother Lucille Doucet, his sisters Monique (Mark) Ramsay, Linda (Pierre Raill) Doucet, his brothers Gerald (Lise) Doucet, Jean-Pierre Doucet, Alain (Louise Henry) Doucet, all of Campbellton, and Michel (Twila ) Doucet of Moncton, his son Robert, his daughter Brandi (David Mann), his foster children Louis, Louise and David and his grandsons Aaron and Taylor.

Peter Hickey 

The death of Peter Hickey of Lorne, husband of Maria (Godin), occurred at St Joseph's Hospital, Dalhousie, August 1, 2001 at the age of 87.

He was born in Lorne to the late Francis Hickey and Ida LaPointe.

Besides his wife, he is survievd by his daughters Rosita LaPointe (Roland) and Shirley Godin (Kenneth), both of Lorne, his sons Percy (Janice), Angus (Vivian), Leon (Jane) Gary (Joy) all of Lorne, Gabriel (Jeannie) of Doyleville and Adrian (Elizabeth) of LaPointe Settlement, his sisters Evangeline, Georgina, Zita, Annie, May and Julian, his brothers Eugene and Arsene of Lorne, 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two infant daughters, his brother Hedley and his sister Leona.


Francois-Xavier Guimond

Francois-Xavier Guimond passed away peacefully in Vancouver, B.C., on Monday July 30, 2001 surrounded by his loving family and caregivers. Throughout his ill-health, during the past 16 years, his courage, strength and dignity sustained him.

"Xav" was a dear husband to the late Gladys Alice Powers, his devoted wife of 61 years. He was also predeceased by his half-brothers Joseph, Ernest and Numa Guimond, his half-sisters Alida Guimond and Eva Guimond Taylor and his brothers Charles Amedee and Stanislas de Koska Guimond.

Left to mourn his passing are his daughter Anne and her husband Robert Griffin, daughter Lucille and her husband Mark Scanlon, son Jean Francois, sisters-in-law Cecilia Powers and Pierrette Guimond, seven grandchildren Cathy Griffin, Cynthia (Richard) Schunicke, Susan Griffin, Suzanne Scanlon, Mark (Janice) Scanlon, Patricia Scanlon and John Scanlon, eight great-grandchildren Giselle, David, Derek, Laura, Shannon, Alanna, Hillary and Emma Scanlon, long-term caregivers Nida Tacderan, Rosalida Samson, Cecilia Samson and their families, rehabilitative fitness instructor Maggi Cheetham, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Born in Campbellton, NB on March 6, 1911, he was a 10th generation Canadian, the son of Marie Rose Lauza Cormier of Caraquet, NB and Zephyrin Amédée Guimond of Cap St. Ignace, Qc. An avid historian, he bequeathed to his family an appreciation of their French and Canadian heritage. He was fiercely proud that his half-brothers served and died for Canada in WW1.

Xav was a true Canadian; to his Maritimer's straight-forwardness and love of seafood, he added a Gaelic style and a British Columbian's love of the outdoors. He was always quick to offer encouragement to others to reach their potential, and he was extremely generous and loyal to his family and friends.

His accomplished career in the Forest Products Industry, particularly in pulp and paper, involved him in significant projects in South America, Africa and throughout Europe, the U.S.A. and Canada. He was the first French-Canadian to be promoted to the management level of this industry. He directed the planning, engineering and construction of several mills, led numerous start-ups and managed research and development.

He was widely known and respected in the industry as a trouble-shooter and for setting the highest standards. Following his official retirement he acted as senior technical advisor to many organizations, including: Parsons & Whittemore Inc.; Rye Brook, N.Y.: H. A. Simons (International and overseas) Vancouver, Bc; ITT-Inc., New York: ITT-Rayonnier Inc., N.Y.; and MacMillan-Bloedell Co. Ltd., Vancouver, BC.

Other highlights of his life included the receipt of The Viscount Willingdon (Governor General's) Academic Medal (1927) and the Lord Beaverbrook Scholarship (1928), his graduation (1932) from the University of New Brunswick with a B.Sc., (honors chemistry), and the Technical Section Service award from the Canadian Pulp and Paper Association (1943). He was a member of the Conference Board of Canada. Research Institute of America and a life member of TAPPI.


Gérald Degrâce

The death of Gérald DeGrâce of 101 Dover Street, Campbellton occurred August 4, 2001 at the Campbellton Regional Hospital.

He was born in Campbellton on August 26, 1929 to the late Joseph Degrâce and Francoise Pitre .

He was a supervisor for Eastern Bakeries and was past Grand Knight of Columbus council 1946.

He is survived by his ex-wife Gabrielle Turcotte DeGrâce, his daughters Diane (Roger, Shawn) LeBlanc of Bathurst and Monique DeGrâce (Daniel Poirier) of Dundee, his sons Jean (Michelle Racicot) DeGrâce of Montreal, Michel (Lucie Leblanc, Danie, Luc) DeGrâce of Dieppe, Marc (Nicole LeBlanc, Pascal) DeGrâce of Tracadie-Sheila, Pierre (Martine Greeves, Vicky, Wendy) DeGrâce of Montreal, his sister Carmelle (Michel) Couture of Levis Qc., and his brothers Charles (Cecile) DeGrâce of Campbellton, Paul-Emile DeGrâce of Quebec and Hector (Anita) DeGrâce of Riverview, N.B.


Irene Manuel

The death of Irene Manuel of Campbellton occurred July 30, 2001 in Campbellton at the age of 82.

She was born in Campbellton on November 9, 1918 to the late Gabriel Manuel and the late Adelia Audet.

She had been employed as a secretary for 42 years. She is survived by two sisters, Olga (Manuel) Savoy and Theresa (Manuel Hutchinson, both of Campbellton, one brother, Randolph Manuel of Ottawa and 11 nephews and 13 nieces.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a brother Maurice Manuel and two sisters, Corinne (Manuel) Berthelot and Eileen (Manuel) Caron.


Leo O'Brien

The death of Leo O'Brien of Lorne, husband of Bernadette (Hickey), occurred at St Joseph's Hospital, Dalhousie on August 4, 2001 at the age of 88.

He was born in St. Theresa, N.B. to Joseph O'Brien and Emily Chamberlain.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughters Edna (Oswald) Carrier of Fredericton, Doris Carrier of Lorne, Barbara (Hubert) Lapointe of Lorne, Doreen Mallaley of Lorne, Darlene (Donald) Godin of Lorne and Agnes (Cameron) Bolton of Cambridgte, Ontario, his sons Alphie (Vivian) of Fredericton, Alzear (Claudette) of Lorne, Romeo of Lorne, Wayne of Campbellton, Dale (Virgina) of Lorne and Mark (Dorothy) of Lorne, his sister Rnetta Carrier of Lorne, his brother Edmond of Lorne, 31 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Alfred and Harold and his sisters Blanche and Ethel.



Lucien Hachey

The death of Lucien Hachey of Pointe-à-la-Croix occurred August 1, 2001 in Campbellton at the age of 57.

He was born on September 5, 1943 to the late Emmanuel Hachey and Odila Boisvert. Besides his wife, Irene Doiron he is survived by his sons Pierre (Heather) Hachey and Denis (Nadine) Hachey, both of Mississauga, Ontario and Luc Hachey of Burlington, Ontario, his daughter Rose (Christopher) Corbett of Burlington, Ontario, his sister Bertha Hachey of McLeod, N.B., his brother Gerry Hachey of Toronto, his step-mother Annie Bujold Levesque and five young children, Daniel, Nicole, Sydney, Brendon and Ashley.
