Lloyd Stewart Salsbury

Lloyd Stewart Salsbury died in Halifax on August 1, 2007 of complications following heart surgery.

Lloyd was born on April 10, 1924 to Edgar and Elda Salsbury of Camden East, Ontario.

He had an idyllic childhood growing up on the family farm on the Napanee River. After high school at the Newburg Academy he pursued his youthful passion, electronics, at the Coyne Institute in Chicago. Then he joined the RCAF and, after the war ended, attended Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. While there, he met and married his wife of 58 years, Rita Halstead. He graduated as an Electrical Engineer in 1950 and immediately began a busy career with the Canadian International Paper Company. His work took him and his growing family to Gatineau, Three Rivers and Dalhousie. A believer in the benefits of education, he chaired the local School Board and developed and taught electrical apprenticeship courses in Dalhousie. In 1979 he retired early and moved to North Granville, PEIwith Rita, where they built a solar home powered by a windmill. He lived a very active life - walking, biking, skiing, traveling, keeping bees, gardening and tending his forty acres. As his numerous friends will attest, he was deeply concerned about the affairs of the broader world. He is survived by his wife Rita and three children, Gail (Tony Phelan), Eric (Richard Cook), and John, as well as three grandchildren, Ryan, Michael, and Ellie. He also leaves sisters in law Betty and Carolyn Salsbury and brother in law George Jeffrey and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation was on Monday August 6th at 10 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. in the Davison Funeral Home Chapel, Kensington. A reception followed in the North Granville Community Centre. Lloyd's favourite charities were the Red Cross and the Heart and Stroke Foundation. www.davisonfh.com
