Marion (Malcom) Court

The death of Marion (Malcom) Court of Escuminac, Quebec, occurred at the Campbellton Regional Hospital on June 15, 2002, at the age of 76.

She was born in Escuminac North on April 11, 1926, to William Malcom and Lillian Day, She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Royal Canadian Legion Branch #19, Campbellton, had been awarded CASA's 25th anniversary awarded in recognition of outstanding volunteerism in the year 200 (the Heart of Gold Award), and was a social notes reporter for The Tribune and The Gaspé Spec.

She was a choir member, clerk of session for the UCW, Presbyterian president and elder of her church.

She is survived by her husband, Graham Court; her daughters, Jean (Stuart Maisy) of Campbellton and Joyce (Carson McDavid) of Moncton; her sons, Garth (Gail Daigle) of Bathurst, Gary Patterson of Montreal, Leonard (Karen McCluskey) of Cambridge, Ontario, Scott (Julie Arpin) of Red Deer, Alberta, Rusell (Barbara White) of Glen Levit, Michael (Suzanna Gallant) of Edson, Alberta, Ronald (Ava Murray) of Tide Head and Bryce of Edmonton; brother-in-law Charles Court, 92, who resided at home and 25 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by two infant sons in 1947 and 1967; her sister, Key Willet of Jasper, Alberta, and her brother, Lawrence Malcom of Miramichi.

Fureral services will be held from First United Church, Campbellton, today (June 19), at 2 pm, officiated by Lay Pastoral Minister Olive Ann Archibald and Rev. Dr. Jim MacDonald. Interment in the Escuminac Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Ronald Court, Kevin McDavid, Marc Lord, Michael Court, Leonard Court and Danny Court.

William Clyde "Bill" Edwards

The death of William Clyde "Bill" Edwards occurred at the Campbellton Regional Hospital on June 6,2002, at the age of 76 years after a long battle with cancer.

Born on September 18, 1923, he was the son of Clyde James Edwards and Ruby Wood.

Bill was a retired CNR brakeman. During World War Two (1943-45) he served in the navy on board HMVS Border Cities.

An avid gardener, Bill was noted for his vegetable garden, admired by neighbour and stranger alike for its weedless straight rows. Without his hand at the tiller, his garden will never be the same. Bill was also a lover of bridge and greatly enjoyed playing at several locations around town...

The Legion held their memorial service at Maher's Funeral Home on Saturday night.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 53 years, Orpha Coffin; his grandsons, Jonathan of Halifax, Jason (Sue) of Miramichi and Colin of Point La Nim; great-granddaughter Shannon of Miramichi; his brother, Burgess (Ellen) of Dalhousie Junction; his sister, Ella Saba, Gwendolyn (Gordon) Flann and Elaine Hicks, all of Dalhousie, and many, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, his daughter, Sheila in 1956, his son, David, in 1994 and his brother, Arthur, in 1991.

Bill's funeral was held on June 9 at Maher's funeral Home Chapel, Campbellton, conducted be Rev. Roland Huchinson of St. John's United Church, Dalhousie, with a prayer by Father Alfred Gallant, one of Bill's bridge friends. A choir was in attendance with organist Mrs. Jean McInnes of Dalhousie.

A eulogy entitled "Memories" was read by Ashley Audfroid, his grand niece. During the service, soloist Anna Hutchinson, sang "His Eye is on the Sparrow". Other hymns were "Jesus Savior Pilot Me" and "Amazing Grace".

Pallbearers were his grandsons, Jason and Colin Edwards, nephews, Aubrey and Mark Edwards and Selwyn (Bobbie) Firsth, amd Marc Terrio, Dalhousie Junction.

Interment was in the family plot in the Campbellton Rural Cemetery beside Sheila and David.

Muriel O'Blenes

The death of Muriel O'Blenes of 44 Boucher Street, Campbellton, formerly of 33 Aberdeen Street, occurred at the Campbellton Regional Hospital on June 15, 2002, at the age of 95.

Born in St. Georges de Malbase, Quebec, on July 2, 1906, she was the daughter of Hedley Hotton and Winifred DeVouge.

She is survived by her daughters, Martha Culton of Clarenville, Newfoundland and Edith (Ernest) Hierlihy of Tabusintac, NB; her sons John O'Blenes (Florence) of Moncton, George O'Blenes (Beryl) of Russell, Ontario, and William O'Blener of Edmundston; her brothers, Allen Hotton of Montreal and Herman Hotton of Bougaineville, Quebec, and 19 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. She was grandmother and mother to Rick Hosegood and Darlene Hosegood-Hotton.

She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, William O'Blenes and her daughter, Helen O'Blenes Hosegood.

Funeral services were held from Maher's Funeral Chapel Campbellton on June 18 officiated by Rev. Doug Phollips.

Funeral arrangements were in care of Maher's Funeral Home, Campbellton.

Edouard Diote

The death of Edouard Diotte of 9 McRae Street, Campbellton, occurred at the Campbellton Regional Hospital on June 11, 2002, at the age of 76.

Born in Balmoral on July 26, 1925, he was the son of the late Alex Diotte and the late Laura Bernard.

He is survived by his wife, Anne Richard Diotte, and his daughter, Barbara (Diotte) Joseph of Campbellton. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Allain and Mathieu Joseph, and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his son, Normand Diotte.

Funeral services were held June 15 form Notre Dame des Neiges Church, Campbellton, with Rev. Romeo Morrison officiating.

Funeral arrangements were in the care of Maher's Funeral Home, Campbellton.

Margaret Cormier

The death of Margaret Cormier of Mitchell Settlement occurred on Friday, May 31, 2002, at the age of 82.

Born in Becketville, she was the daughter of John Kennedy and Margaret (LaPointe).

She is survived by her sons, Gussy (Myra) of BC, Frederick (Brenda) Sault Ste. Marie, Raymond (Brenda) of Belledune and Don (Kim) of New Mills; her daughters, Loretta Christensen of BC, Angela Lemon (Dennis) of Beardmore, ONT., Mary Cormier (Jim) of Grand Prairie, Alberta, Joanne Wladyko (George) of Albert, Alberta, and Colleen Vanderwal of Queen Charlotte BC., her brother Hedley Kennedy of Ontario; her sister, Winnifred Russell of Jacquet River; 13 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, James; her son, Al; her granddaughter, Malerie Cormier; her sisters, Charlotte, Viola, Mary, Doris and Myrtle and her brother, John Kennedy.

Her funeral service was held at St. Gabriel's Church, Jacquet River, on June 4 with Father Losier officiating and burial in the parish cemetery.

Pallbearers were her four sons, Don, Raymond, Ricky and Gus and two daughters Angela and Mary.

Honourary pallbearers were William Kennedy, Eugene Russell, Reggie Strong, Bernard Strong, Chester Culligan, Don Culligan, Reggie Rusell and Erwin Donnelly.

Funeral arrangements were in the care of MacMillan's Funeral Home, Black Point.

Harriet Nichol

The death of Harriet Nichol of Blacklands, wife of John Nichol, occurred at the Campbellton Regional Hospital on Thursday, June 6, 2002, at the age of 76.

The daughter of the late Alfred Simonson and Eliza (Cooling), she is survived by her husband, John; her sons, Rick of Lundar, Manitoba and Gordie of Kingston, Ontario; her daughter, Cathy and Marsha, both of Edmonton and Nancy of Angus, Ontario; 11 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

She was predeceased by her mother and father.

Funeral services were held from Zion United Church, New Mills, on June 10 with burial in the New Mills Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were in the care of MacMillan's Funeral Home, Black Point.

God Gave us Mum for just awhile, to learn the kindness of her smile. To find out what a family means, and fun and quiet friendship scenes. To find that love comes from the heart and doesn't end when folks depart. Mum taught us well, we're not alone. She has not died, she's just gone home.

Elizabeth R. Nichol

The death of Elizabeth R. Nichol of New mills, widow of the late Stanley Nichol, occurred at St. Joseph's Hospital, Dalhousie, on Sunday, June 2 at the age of 83.

She was postmistress at the New mills post office and store keeper until retirement in 1983. She was also a member of the Women's Missionary Society, organist at Zion and St. Paul's United Churches and supplied at various other churches. She also taught mission band Sunday School.

She is survived by her sister, Irene Fournier (Tom) of New Mills, her step-children Shirley Allard (Eugene) of Charlo, Holly Goodwin (Bob) of Moncton, Royce (Velma) of Dundas, Ontario, Harley (Stephanie) also of Dundas and Stanley Coleman (Bonnie) of Burlington, Ontario.

Her funeral was held from Zion United Church, New Mills, on June 6.

Pallbearers were Royce, Harley and Coleman Nichol, Chester Creighton, Donald MacMillan and James Fournier. Honourary pallbearers were the Zion and St. Paul's United Church Women.

Funeral arrangements were in care of MacMillan's Funeral Home, Black Point.

Walter Carrier

The death of Water Carrier of Lorne occurred June 6 at the age of 79.

Born in Lorne, he was the son of Edward Carrier and Eva (Chamberlain).

He is survived by his wife, Frances, his step-children, Mary Lou Hennigar of Point La Nim, Peggy Martin of Robinsonville, Brenda Martin of Campbellton, Sharon Martin of Campbellton, Wayne Martin of Campbellton, Donnie Martin of Ontario and Betty Martin of Dalhousie; his brothers, Irvin of Jacquet River and Murray of Atholville; his nephew and many other nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Leo, John and Guy and by his sister, Opal.

Funeral services were held from St. Marie Goretti Church, Lorne on June 8, officiated by Father Comeau with burial in the Parish Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Wayne Martin, Jacques Doucet, Basil Carrier, Lindsay Carrier, Edward Carrier and Allen Carrier.

Funeral arrangements were in the care of MacMillan's Funeral Home, Black Point.
