Lilian Duncan

Lilian Duncan of Campbellton, N.B. died unexpectedly and peacefully in her sleep December 1, 2008, at the Mount Saint Joseph Nursing Home in Miramichi, N.B. Lilian was born in Yorkshire, England, the first daughter of Harry and Ellen Draper.

She married George Duncan on December 1, 1944, and arrived as a war bride in Canada September, 6, 1946. Her life was lived on Renault Street, Brookside Park at the foot of the Sugarloaf Mountain. She was loved by her family as much as she loved them and the family members were a constant source of pride and joy. Lilian and her sister remained close with her sister's last card and parcel arriving just days before Lilian died. Friends from Christ Church Anglican were an important part of Lilian's life as was her church. A special thanks must be given to Reverend Godsoe who helped her in so many ways and was there for her at the end. Pictures and cards from the congregation meant a lot to her and the family. Due to loyal and caring friends and neighbours who were such an important part of Lilian's life, she was able to remain content in her own home where she was happiest. Bingo gave Lilian a lot of pleasure as did the friends she met there.

In the last years of her life Lilian experienced contentment in the loving care provided by the Mount Saint Joseph Nursing Home and its staff. All who knew her knew Lilian's greatest personal satisfaction in work came from her garden where she spent so many happy hours and one of her greatest sources of pride in life was being British. Lilian is survived by her daughter, Joan Mahabir (Ray) in Strathadam, her grandchildren Krishna Mahabir (Sonja) in Miramichi, Chandra Mahabir (Marc) in Edmonton, Cathy Allen (Aran) in Miramichi, Christine Taylor (Chris) in Ontario, Raman Mahabir in Texas, John Duncan (Donna) in Ontario, Sanjay Mahabir (Vicki) in Miramichi; three great grandchildren Ariel, and Ethan (Krishna), and Duncan Taylor (Christine) and one sister Joan Shaw (Brent) of Yorkshire England. Lilian is predeceased by her husband George Duncan, her son Warren Duncan, formerly of Saint John, N.B., and her brother Harry Draper of Yorkshire, England.

The funeral was held on Saturday December 6 from Christ Church Anglican with Reverend Godsoe as the officiant with internment in Campbellton Rural Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were in the capable care of Maher's Funeral Home, Lansdowne Street, Campbellton. Lilian was dearly loved and will be missed. In her memory donations to Christ Church Anglican would be appreciated or give a flower to a friend as Lilian so often did.
