Arthur Stanley O’Keeffe

On June 17, 2002 with his wife Kaye by his side, the life that was Arthur Stanley O’Keeffe ceased to be.

The friends and many families, whether immediate or extended, along with the family of the Brotherhood will long remember the presence that was Art.

Born February 28, 1918 in Campbellton, N.B., Art was the third child of Hugh and Opal O’Keeffe in a family of six. He left Campbellton for British Colombia in 1938 to play hockey and work the mine in Bralorne. The 1940s saw his marriage, the birth of his sons and his enlistment in the Air Force. After years of traversing the country, the couple settled in Vancouver for the next 50 years.

Shortly after retirement, Art and Kaye returned to Bridge River Valley where they first met to live out their time together. Art dedicated his life to the betterment of conditions for the working man. He was an avid advocate of labour rights and spent his entire life fighting for his beliefs. A stubborn, just and fair man, his passions ran deep. His love and dedication to his family, friends and the Brotherhood will long be remembered. He had an impact on so many lives, yet his gentle nature winning smile and quick wit are the qualities that will keep him in our hearts forever.

He is survived by his wife Kaye, son Jimmy, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, his sister Marie and brothers Daniel and Frank. Funeral mass was held Tuesday June 25 at St. Francis Assisi Chruch in Vancouver.
