Alice Mary (Née Trites) Scott
Alice passed away peacefully on January 19, 2005 at the age of 96 with her family at her side. She was born in Campbellton, NB, on August 29, 1908. Alice was predeceased by her husband, Winston, daughter, Beryl and son, Danny, son-in-law, Jim and daughter-in-law, Pat, as well as 11 of her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her sister, Hazel, and her brothers, Clifford, Arthur, Harold and Wally, her sons, Gregory (Jean), Stewart (Edwina) and Glendon (Marilyn) and her daughters, Linda, Helen (David) and Edith (John), Danny's wife, Andree, and. Beryl's husband, Winston. She will be greatly missed by her 23 grandchildren, of whom she was so fond: Brenda, Karen, Ken, Jeff, Scott, Kimberly, Kent, Jay, Graham, David, Lucy, Brian, Cindy, Barbara, Susan, Maureen, Christopher, Alicia, Stephanie, Stewart, Gregory, Danny and Jessica, and by her 33 great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff of Heritage Home in Ladner, BC who took care of our Mom so lovingly during her 4 year stay and supported the family during her final days.
A memorial service was held at St. David's Anglican Church in Tsawwassen, BC on Saturday, January 22, 2005. Interment will be in Campbellton, NB at a later date. For those who so wish, a donation in Alice's memory to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
Adeoda Fournier
The death of Mr. Adeoda Fournier, resident of the Dalhousie Nursing Home, occurred e at St. Joseph's Hospital on January 21, 2005, at the age of 92.
Born in St. Majorick, Gaspé, Quebec, he was the son of the late Gedeon Fournier and the late Marie Minville. Adeoda was a member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.
He will be sadly missed by his wife Geraldine (Furlotte) Murphy Fournier of Charlo; daughters Catherine (John) LeBlanc of Charlo, Bertha (Sylvio) LeClair of Charlo, Linda (Edmond) LaPointe of Baie Comeau, Que., and Evelyn Fournier of Bathurst; step-daughter Esther (Gaston) Mercier of Balmoral, NB; son Gerald (Laurette) Fournier of Vancouver, B.C. and Stephen (Susie) Fournier of Montreal, Que.; step-son Leslie E (Eméline) of Hamilton, ON; sister Laurette (Maurice) Gaudreau of Quebec, Que.; brothers Germain (Jacqueline) Fournier of St. Majorick, Que.; 21 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his first wife Rose Adams; son I Arnold; two daughters: Carole and Lydia; stepson Arnold; grandchildren Gerry, Diane and May; brothers: Alphonse, Stanislas, Jules, Armand, Lucien, Gedeon, Alexander, John and I Laurent; sisters: Bertha, Rita, Winifred and Jeannine.
Leona Mary Harquail
The death of Leona Mary Harquail of Campbellton and formerly of Dalhousie occurred at the Campbellton Regional Hospital on January 18, 2005, at the age of 44.
Born in Dalhousie, she was the daughter of the late Gerald Harquail and the late Jessie Harquail.
She is survived by her daughters Sophia and Christina Harquail; son Nathan; sisters Coleen (Larry) Petersen, Deborah Harquail, Cindy Bogayevsky and Carol Harquail; brothers Gerald (Sherri) Harquail, Lloyd (Irene) Harquail and Perry (Sylvie) Harquail; 10 nephews, 12 nieces; 4 grandnephews and 2 grandnieces.
She was predeceased by her parents Gerald and Jessie and brothers Bobby and Tom.
Bertha Irene Thompson
It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Mrs. Bertha Irene Thompson of Campbellton, which occurred at the Campbellton Regional Hospital on January 27,2005.
Born in Bathurst, NB, on March 13, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Wilfred, Blaquiere and the late Marie Luce Berube.
Bertha was employed as registered nurse for 27 years. She was also a member of "Les Amies d'Hotel-Dieu", member of the Campbellton Auxiliary Health Care and was made an honorary member in December 2004.
She will be sadly missed by her husband Walter Thompson; daughters: Diane Thompson, Louise (Tim) Doherty, Julie, (Peter) McLean, Elaine Thompson (Rick) McRae and Lisa (Francois) Boulay; sons: Wilfred Thompson, Peter, Romain (Therese) Thompson and Clifford (Elaine) Thompson; sisters: Fernande, Adrienne, Gabrielle, Annette, Claire, Emma and Evangline; brothers: Laurent, Paul and Andre; grandchildren Tammy, Stacey, Jesse, Jennifer, Samuel, Justin, Kimberly, Stéphanie, Liam, Chelsey, Lynn, Holly, Meaghan, Spencer, Camille and Brielle.
She was predeceased by her parents, Wilfred and Marie Luce, as well as her brother Victor in 1996.
Marie Georgina Valdron
The death of Marie Georgina Valdron of 191 St. John Street in Dalhousie occurred at the St. Joseph Hospital on January 24, 2005.
Born in Tracadie-Sheila, NB, on September 11, 1936, she was the daughter of the late George Holmes and. Alphonsina Lebreton. Marie was employed as a registered nurse.
She will be sadly missed by her husband Andrew Valdron; mother. Alphonsina Holmes of Saint John, NB; daughter Kyla Valdron Clark of Newfoundland; sons: John Valdron of Dalhousie and Dennis Valdron of Manitoba; sisters: Alice Meunier of Saint John, NB and Gemma Hajerty of Saint John, NB; brother John Holmes of Hampton, NB; two grandchildren Jared Valdron and Shannon Clark.
Alward (Mort) Firlotte Mourned
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Auley Firlotte, well-known and lifelong resident of Campbellton, on January 22, 2005, eight days short of his eightieth birthday.
Auley, widely known as Mort, was born on January 30, 1925, the son of the late Wallace and Annie Jane (MacLeod) Firlotte. Pre-deceased by his wife Helen (Harvey), his brother Dallas and sister Irene, he is survived by his sister Maxine Watters, and his son Rick, his daughter Pam, daughter-in-law France St-Hilaire and grandchildren Nicolas and Elyse.
Mort served in the Royal Canadian Navy on convoy duty during the Second World War on the North Atlantic. He was a founding member of the Campbellton Main Brace and an active member of the Canadian Legion. Following the war he took an electrical course in Saint John where he met his future wife Helen. They were married in 1949 and settled in Campbellton. He worked as an electrician at the CNR until he retired. He fondly remembered all of his, friends and colleagues from his many years at CN.
Mort was a lifelong outdoorsman, a hunter and fisherman and a contractor for the Restigouche Salmon Club. During the 1960s he and Helen ran Mort's Canteen, an institution on Gerrard Street. He was a, City Councilor, manager of the Caledonian Society Pipe band and a volunteer fireman. One of his proudest moments was as coach of the 1958/59 Campbellton Tigers hockey team when they were Maritime Champions and played in the Memorial Cup Series in Pembrooke, Ontario. The team has since been inducted into the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame.
Mort deeply cared for his community and particularly its people. He and his family enjoyed and appreciated the support and affection of neighbors and friends. We would especially like to thank the people at the Village who provided Mort with care and kindness in his final years.
Reginald (Reg) Stewart
It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Reginald (Reg) Stewart of 238 Goderich Street, Dalhousie, which occurred in Moncton, NB, on January 27, 2005 at the age of 70.
Born in Dalhousie, he was the son of the late A. Reid Stewart and the late Winnifred Anne Miller. Reginald was employed as an electrician and was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Eastern Star.
He will be sadly missed by his wife Dorothy Beckingham Stewart of Dalhousie; daughters: Lorei (Ralph) Gilks and Deena (Glen) Sutton of Dalhousie; son Harvey (Frances) Stewart of Quispamsis, NB; sister Bertha (Allison) Pollock of Tide Head; brothers: John "Bud" (Eva) Stewart of Sussex, NB; grandsons: Eathan and Riley Sutton.
Reg was predeceased his parents Reid and Winnifred, son Gordon in 1995 and brother Gerry.
Myrtle Kierstead
The death of Myrtle Kierstead, resident of the Village Nursing Home in Campbellton, occurred at the Campbellton Regional Hospital on January 18, 2005, at the age of 76.
Born in Campbellton on February 16, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence Benwell and the late Ludy Fitzgerald. Myrtle was a retired bookkeeper for the Department of Highways in Tide Head. .
She will be sadly missed by her husband Charles Kierstead of Campbellton; daughter Peggy (Henry) Michaud of Campbellton; Mike (Vivien) Kierstead of Bathurst; sister Beulah King of Bolton, Ontario; brothers Eric (Christena) Benwell of Prince George, Alb., Maynard (Anne) Benwell of Scottsdale, Arizona, Byron (Stella) Benwell of Peterborough, Ontario, and Robert (Ruth) Benwell of Orleans, Ontario; grandsons Dean (Adrian) Michaud of Orleans, Ont., Robert Michaud of Campbellton, David Michaud of Dartmouth, NS, Michael (Sonia) Kierstead of Halifax, NS, granddaughter Susan (Roger) Stapleton of Lantz, NS and their children Aishley and Evan.
She was predeceased by her brothers Austin and Grancil and great granddaughter Katey Evans.
Philibert Dugas
The death of Philibert Dugas of Richardsville occurred at the St. Joseph Hospital in Dalhousie on January 24, 2005.
Born in Campbellton on May 18, 1913, he was the son of the late Joseph Dugas and the late Alice Allard. Philibert was a carpenter and poultry farmer.
He is survived by his wife Rosa Frenette Dugas; daughters: Lorraine (Larry) Mercer of Woodstock, NB, Diane (Serge) Duplain of The Netherlands and Linda Dugas of Campbellton; sons: Paul (Denise LeBlanc) of Moncton, NB, Robert (Cathy) of Kingston, Ont., Daniel (Diane) of Saint John, NB and Gerald (Sandra) of Moncton, NB; brother Amédée of Richardsville; 11 grandchildren and 5, great grandchildren.
