Francis (Frank) H. McKiel

The death of Frank McKiel, 96, occurred on December 17, 2002 at his residence in the Village Nursing Home in Campbellton after a brief illness.

He was born in Chelmsford, N.B. and lived in Atholville, and later in Tide Head.

He is survived by his wife, Isabel, his daughters, Alice (John) Barberie of Dalhousie, Marina Palumbo of Golden, B.C., his son, Lauren of Yellowknife, his sister, Ethel (Ralph) Hamilton of Fredericton as well a ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

He was a life long employee of the Restigouche Log Driving and Boom Company of Atholville and retired after their operations closed. He was also one of the last surviving River and Woodsmen of the Restigouche River System.

Following his retirement he produced many unique items in his workshop, such as bow irons, boat seats and poles, lead anchors, all manners of lawn furniture as well as many one-of-a-kind items made on request.

He will long be remembered for his commitment to hard work, in addition to being a kind and caring person whose trademark was helpfulness to all people and pride in his workmanship.

Donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Funeral arrangements were in the care of Maher's Funeral Home in Campbellton.

Gisele Lagace

The death of Gisele Lagace of Atholville occurred on December 24, 2002 at the Campbellton Regional Hospital at the age of 73.

She was born in Lac Baker, N.B. on September 20, 1929 the daughter of the late Wilfred Gagnon and the late Annie Caron.

She is survived by her husband Lucien Lagace, her daughter, Suzanne Lagace of Moncton, her sons; Guy of Campbellton, and Jacques (Danielle) of Atholville, her sisters; Gertrude LeBlanc of Beresford, Therese Thibault of Trois Rivieres, and Francoise O'Mara of Hamilton, her brother, Ernest (Peggy) Gagnon of Atholville and her grandchildren Melanie, Caroline and Eric.

The funeral was held on December 27, at Our Lady of Lourdes church in Atholville with Father Morrison officiating. Interment was in the parish cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were in the care of Maher's Funeral Home in Campbellton.

Margaret Duncan

It is with great sorrow that the family of Margaret Duncan announces her passing on Tuesday, December 17, 2002, from complications arising from a car accident.

Born near Dalhousie on July 20, 1917, Margaret lived in northern New Brunswick for over 40 years where she was an avid curler and bridge player and was past Matron of the Dalhousie chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.

After living in Tamiscaming, Quebec for nine years, Margaret and her family moved to London, Ontario, in 1972 where she worked for several years at Marian Villa Hospital and was a dedicated member of the Empress United Church.

Margaret, with here gentle, loving and intelligent nature, inquisitive zest for life and delightful sense of humour, will be deeply missed by Arnold, her husband of 63 years, her children, Dr. Jeanne Duncan of Saint John, N.B., Judy and her husband, Paul Mitchell of Sarasota, Florida, Jim and his partner Ken Smith of Owen Sound, Ont., Brian of Whitby, Ont. And Debbie and her fiance Rob Mitchell of Mississauga, Ont. Her grandchildren, Bryan Mitchell of Los Angeles, CA and Tarah Weaver and her husband Russ of Vienna, Virginia, Sisters Violet Kilpatrick of Norton, MA and Edith Mullin of Dalhousie, here brothers, Jim Miller of St. Thomas and Sydney Miller and wife Betty of Dalhousie, N.B., as well a nieces and nephews in New Brunswick and Ontario.

The funeral was conducted from Westview Funeral Chapel, London, Ontario, on December 21 with Rev. Lorenzo Ramirez officiating.

Interment will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Empress United Church, 75 Blackfriars St., London, ON. N6H 1K8 or to a charity of donor's choice.

Leonie Carrier

The death of Leonie Carrier, 85, occurred on December 23, 2002 at the Dalhousie Nursing Home.

She was born in Balmoral on October 17, 1917, the daughter of the late John LeBlanc and the Late Angelique Poirier and was a dedicated mother and housewife.

She is survived by her daughters, Linda Valdron of Eel River Crossing, Alida Levesque of Dalhousie and Geraldine Steven of Dartmouth, her son Alvin of Eel River, her sisters, Melanie LeBlanc of Balmoral, Maria Arseneault of Balmoral, Almandine LeClerc of Eel River Crossing, and Alida Levesque, and her brother Alvin LeBlanc of Campbellton, as well a 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by two of her brothers, Gerald and Ulisse.

The funeral was held at the Holy Trinity Church in Eel River Crossing on December 24 with Father Bill Arseneau officiating. Pallbearers were Danny, Jackie, Michel and Steven Stevens, Robert Carrier and Dean Steven.

Funeral arrangements were in the care of Maher's Funeral Home in Campbellton.

Stevens, Lilly (Nee Boudreau)

Peacefully at Versa Care in Brantford, Ontario on Saturday, December 21, 2002 in her 90th year.

Wife of the late Yoland Stevens (1965); loving mother of the late Guy (1971), Bert, Jim, Frank and Charlie and their families. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Tom and Leonard Boudreau and her sister, Bella Aucoin.

The funeral was held at Maher's Funeral Chapel on December 28 with interment in the St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery.

Donations to the Diabetes Association would be greatly appreciated.
