Maurice Savoie

The sudden death of Maurice Savoie of Eel River Crossing occurred on February 1, 2003 at the age of 42. He was the son of the late Robert Savoie and Geraldine Savoie of Eel River Crossing.

He is survived by his common-law-wife, Geralda Hache, his stepson, Rene, his sister, Sylvie Savoie, his brothers Lorenzo (Kathleen) and Ronald (Lyanne), two nephews, Gaby and Robin and two nieces, Tanya and Joanie. He was an active and proud firefighter for the Eel River Crossing Fire Brigade, He will be sadly missed. The funeral was held on February 4, 2003 at the St. Trinity Church in Eel River. Funeral arrangements in the care of Maher's Funeral Home in Balmoral.

Alvin Mckeil

The death of Alvin McKeil of the Soldier's Memorial Villa in Campbellton occurred on February 5, 2003 at the Campbellton Regional Hospital. He was 72. He was born on January 4, 1931 a son of the late Herbert McKeil and the late Elizabeth Creamer.

He is survived by his children, Daniel (Daral), Grand Prairie, Alta, Charles (Adele) Edmonton, Timothy, Grand Prairie, and Gordon, Campbellton, his grandchildren, Laura, Edmonton and Amber and Heather, Grand Prairie, his sisters, Rhena (Edwin) Murray, Moncton, and Phyllis (Marcel) Caron, Tide Head, his brothers, David (Lois), Tide Head and Sterling (Dawn), Tide Head , his sister-in-law, Alyuna Geldart, Tide Head, his brother-in-law, Richard Price, Edmonton, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Alice on November 7, 1991 (should read 2001) and one brother, Vernon.

Alvin retired in 1991 and was a letter carrier. He served in the Korean War as a member of the P.P.C.L.I. and was a trained paratrooper. His passions were hunting and fishing, as he loved the outdoors, He was a member of the Loch Lomond Fishing Club and the Pope Logan Fishing Club where he spent many hours fishing on their respective lakes (probably telling a lie or two about sizes and numbers of fish caught, but don't all fishermen?) He lived at the Soldier's Memorial Villa for the last year or so and spoke highly of Muriel and the staff. He would have wanted them to know how much he appreciated the care and attention he was afforded. He formed many new friendships while a resident at the Villa and enjoyed their company on a daily basis. His funeral was held on February 10 at Maher's Funeral Home with Rev. James MacDonald officiating. Funeral arrangements were in the care of Maher's Funeral Home in Campbellton.

Stella Harrigan

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Stella Harrigan on February 6, 2003 at the age of 87. She was born in Grand Falls the daughter of the late George and Philomenna (Michaud) Mockler.

She came to Dalhousie in 1935 and had made the area her home and was very active in the C.W.L. for over 60 years. She is survived by her sons, James of Campbellton and David of Edmonton, her daughter, Marlene of Winnipeg, and her grandson, Justin of Edmonton.

She was predeceased by her husband, James Harrigan.

The remains rested at Maher's Funeral Home in Dalhousie with a service held from St. John Bosco Church on February 10, 2003, Father Chamberlain offciating. Interment will take place in the spring. Funeral arrangements were in the care of Maher's Funeral Home in Campbellton.
