Tribute to Tommy Kaine (1927-2003)
It was with great sadness that family and friends learned of the death in Toronto on Sunday, February 16, of Thomas Maxwell Kaine, after a very brief illness.
A memorial reception will be held Friday, February 21, from Ward Funeral Home, 2035 Weston Road, Toronto, following cremation. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the memorial of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
Born in Campbellton on March 9, 1927, Tommy grew up in nearby Flatlands, a bit of a rogue, but a devoted son to his mother Mrs. Ruth Kaine. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, the former Carolyn Wyers of Tide Head; two daughters: Candace (Gerry Sullivan) and Julie (Reg Boyce) and beloved grandson Cameron Boyce, all of the Toronto area; one sister Geraldine Carter (Ken) of Campbellton; and many nieces and nephews, including Carol Savage (Tim) of Miramichi, and John (Duhy) Bourque of Edmonton, Alberta, who, like all the rest, cherished Tommy as their favorite uncle, Tommy loved life and loved people. Even though he had lived in Toronto for the past 50 years, he never lost touch with the people back home, visiting relatives and boyhood friends in Flatlands, Tide Head, Campbellton and Miramichi when he and Carolyn made their yearly trips down East.
Tommy was not a 'religious' man, but in the words of the poet Gibran, Your daily life is your temple and your religion'.
Whenever you enter into it take with you your all'
That's what Tommy did - he embraced life. He was a great storyteller who could draw humor and insight from every situation. He had a good heart and made the world a kinder, better place.
Tom, we're sure going to miss you!
