Bridget Esther Basque

Bridget Esther Basque (nee McCormick), of 140 Bujold St., Dalhousie, NB, passed away at the Dalhousie Nursing Home on June 27, 2003 at the age of 91.

Born on June 19, 1912 in Maria, Quebec, she is the daughter of Charles McCormick (deceaded) and Margaret Foran (deceaded). Bridget was a devoted mother and homemaker, and was a lifelong member of the Catholic Women's League. She was also the past president of the Dalhousie Golden Age Club, and an avid bridge player. She is survived by daughters, Shirley Basque, of Montreal, PQ., Dorothy Leslie, of Halifax, NS., and Franceen Pozo, of Tullahoma, Tennessee; sons Lloyd, of Dalhousie, NB., Lomer, of Dalhousie, NB., Leonard, of Campbellton, NB, Edward, of Houston, Texas, Ronald, of Halifax, NS., and Reginald, of Montreal, PQ.; sisters Frances Quinton, Kathleen Henley, both of Dalhousie, NB., and the late Annie Rogers, of Dalhousie, NB. She is also survived by ten grandsons and five grand-daughters. She was predeceased by her husband Wilfred, and daughter Eileen.

Funeral service was held at St.John Bosco church on July 1, and was officiated by Father Bill Arseneau. Interment was held at St. John Baptist cemetery. Funeral arrangements were in the care of Maher's Funeral Home, Campbellton.

Rev. John Robert Alexander Smearer

The death of Rev. John Robert Alexander Smearer occurred at the Charlotte County Hospital on January 8, 2003.

Born in Black Point, NB, he was the son of the late Irvin Archibald and the late Pearl Smearer. Survived by four sisters, Cora (Charles) Mealy of Black Point, NB, Rev. Katherine, Kay, (Donald) Clowater, of Oak Bay, NB, Sheila Smearer of Black Point, NB, Rev. Nancy Steeves, of Edmonton, AB; three brothers, Martin (Veta) Smearer, of Black Point, NB, Wayne Smearer, of Black Point, NB., and Danny (Rose Marie) Smearer, of Archibald Settlement, NB; several nieces and nephews; adopted parents Carmen (Edith) Goodwin, of Moncton, NB, Joe (Meta) Daigle, of Ottawa, ON, and many dear friends and colleagues across the country.

Predeceased by one sister, Brenda Smearer.

Funeral services were held on January 12, 2003, in Moncton, NB. A memorial service and committal will be held at the Zion United Church in New Mills, NB, on July 19, 2003, at 2:00 p.m.

Walter Howard Dumville

Walter Howard Dumville, a resident at the Soldier's Memorial Villa, passed away at the Campbellton Regional Hospital on June 27, 2003 at the age of 87.

Born on September 17, 1916 in Escuminac, PQ., he was the son of John Dumville (deceased), and Annie Pike (deceased). Mr. Dumville was a farmer, and a member of the Canadian Legion Branch #19. He also served overseas from 1943-1945 as a Canadian army tank operator.

He is survived by sister Grace McLaughlin, of Fredericton, NB.; nephews, John Dewar, Bob Dewar, Les Dewar, Oliver Dewar and Tim Dewar. He was predeceased by his parents.

Funeral service was held at the Escuminac United Church on June 28, 2003, with Rev. Wendell Gregan officiating. Interment was at the Escuminac Cemetery.

Honourary pallbearers were Graham Court, Charles Court, John Edwards, Ralph Edwards, Clifford Hayes, Daryl Gray, Muriel Cyr, Dick Keays, and Maurice Bujold. Pallbearers were Gale MacKinnon, Byron Edwards, Frank Wafer, Meryl Keays, Leslie Dewar and Bob Dewar.

Eldred Mann

Friends and relatives are invited to a memorial service for Eldred Mann, who passed away at the Brantford General Hospital on March 6, 2003. Service will be held at St. Andrew's Anglican Church in Ronbinsonville at 2:00 p.m. on July 12, 2003.

Scott Firlotte and Chester Bolton

Graveside memorial services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on July 17, 2003 at the Broadlands Kempt Road Cemetery for burial of the cremated remains of: Scott Firlotte, who passed away October 18, 2002, in Edmonton. Scott was the son of the late George Firlotte and Mary Downs. He is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Chester Bolton, who passed away on May 21, 2002, in Edmonton. Chester is the son of the late Lunam Bolton and Loretta Firlotte. He is survived by one brother, John, of Edmonton; five sisters, Hazel, of Campbellton NB., Mavis, of Escuminac PQ., Verna, of Toronto ON., Patsy, of Sault-St-Marie ON., and Loretta, of Campbellton NB.

Scott and Chester will both be sadly missed. All are welcome to attend their graveside memorial service.

Marguerite Rioux

Marguerite Rioux, wife of the late Roland Rioux, of 2 Dufferin Street, Campbellton, NB, passed away on July 3, 2003, at the Campbellton Regional Hospital, at the age of 87.

Born December 26, 1916 in Isle Verte, PQ., she was the daughter of Louis Charles Coté (deceased), and Augustine Gagnon (deceased). Marguerite was a devoted housewife.

She is survived by her son Gerard Rioux, of Campbellton; grandchildren, Donna Hichey, and David Rioux; and great-grandchildren, Micheal, Melissa, and Meghan Rioux.

She was predeceased by her parents, and her husband Roland Rioux.

Funeral service was held at Notre Dame des Neiges, on July 7, 2003, and officiated by Rev. Romeo Morrison. Interment was held at Notre Dame des Neiges parish cemetery. Funeral arrangements were in the care of Mayer's Funeral Home, Campbellton.
