Annie Steeves

We are deeply saddened by the passing of a lovely lady of 93 years young. Mrs. Annie Steeves.

She passed away suddenly and quietly on July 25, 2003, at the Campbellton Memorial Hospital with family by her side.

Deeply mourning are her daughters and sons: Donald, Bernice, Melvin, Billy, Phyllis, Bobby, Keith, Ralph and Gilbert.

She will also be missed by 32 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. We wish also to thank out of town visitors for coming: Billy Steeves, Darlene Steeves and Damien (son), Sheila and Billy, Johnathan and his girlfriend, Rena Flanagen, Jeannie Maltais and her boyfriend, and Peter and his wife and family.

We will miss her deeply. She will always be in our hearts, souls and minds as long as we live. God bless her (with Elvis).

Leonard Robert White

It was with great sadness that family and friends learned of the accidental death of Leonard (Lennie) White of Glen Levit, following an extensive search of the area on Sunday evening, July 13 and the morning of July 14, 2003. Leonard Robert White, of Glen Levit, N.B., passed away on July 13, 2003, in Dawsonville at the age of 74. Born April 5, 1929, he was the son of Gordon White (deceased 1992). Mr. White worked as an auto mechanic for McGregor's Garage in Campbellton for 20 years. He owned and operated a garage in Glen Levit from 1973 until retirement in 1988. He had been involved with Glen Sports for many years, and enjoyed camping and hunting, going for walks, and driving around the beautiful country-side he loved so well. He is survived by his daughters, Phyllis Mulholland (Raymond), of Fredericton, Doris Pollock, of Glen Levit, Barbara Court (Russell), of Glen Levit, Gracie Firth (Randy), of Glen Levit, and Donna Firth (Brent), of Winnipeg, Man.; sons Leonard D., of Glen Levit, Sonny (Darlene), of Glen Levit, Douglas (Nancy), of Glen Levit, and George (Nathalie), of Campbellton; sisters, Eileen McDavid, of Kingston, and Berniece Squires (Mack), of Montreal, P.Q.; brothers, Vernon (Madeline), of Edmonton, Alta., and Myron (Peggy), of Montreal, P.Q.; grand-children, Patti, Rob, Cheryl, Lori, Kristen, Travis, Joni, Darla, Erin, Ryan, Andrew, Rebecca (Becky), Stephanie, Cody, Jessica, Jonathan, and Travis W; and great-grandchildren, Lana, Amber, Shay, Michaela, Abigail, Braedon, and Lydia. His "grampie jokes" will be greatly missed, and his "mind the time" stories will never be forgotten. He was a very special uncle to many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Gertie McDavid. He was predeceased by his wife Grace McDavid (1992), his parents Gordon and Amelia, his sister Marlaine Binford, his brothers, Freeman, Murray, and Howard, a nephew, Darcy White, and a niece, Carol White. The funeral was held in Saint Thomas Aquinas Church, in Campbellton, on Thursday, July 17, 2003, and was officiated by Father Wilfred Benoit. Interment was held at St. Anthony's Cemetery, Glen Levit. Honourary pallbearers were Milton McDavid, Buzzie White, Michael Parker, Ricky Squires, Gary Pollock, Kemp Glidden, Howard Cooling, Johnny MacDonald, Garth Fitzgerald, Danny Farrer, and Lee Marshall. Pallbearers were Raymond Mulholland, Danny Pollock, Russell Court, Brent Firth, Randy Firth, Freeman White. Funeral arrangements were in the care of Maher's Funeral Home, Campbellton.

Hilda Godin

The death of Hilda Godin of Lorne occurred at St. Joseph Hospital, Dalhousie, July 23 at the age of 64.

Born in Lorne, she was the daughter of Vincent Hickey and Mary Jane Carrier. She was the beloved wife of the late Amedee Godin. Besides her husband, she was also predeceased by her parents, sisters Ruby Powers, Bernice Powers and Eva Duguay, and brothers Edmond and Alfred.

She is survived by her son Tony (Monica) of Lorne; daughters Sally Peterson (Marshall) of Lorne, Theresa Lapointe (Marcel) of Lorne, and Janie Godin (Johnny Keays) of Dundee; brothers Tommy, Vincent, Willie, Allie, Alphie, and sisters Rita Godin, Opal Lapointe and Bertha Modsley.

Her funeral was held on Friday, July 25, from St. Marie Goretti Church, Lorne, officiated by Father Lionel Comeau, with burial in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers were Percy, Leon, Rodney, Jason and Adam Hickey, and Dean Furlotte.

Funeral arrangements were in the care of MacMillan's Funeral Home, in Black Point.

Joyce Velma Cook

Joyce Velma Cook, of 41 Landsdown Street, Campbellton, passed away at the Campbellton Regional Hospital, on July 20, 2003, at the age of 76. Born February 27, 1927, she was the daughter of Gordon John Irvine (deceased), and Estella Ellen Babcock (deceased). Mrs. Cook worked as a seamstress for 55 years, and enjoyed cottage life, music and watching golf.

She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Voges, of McLeods; sons, Wayne C. Cook, of Miramichi, Alan Cook, of Campbellton, Gordon Cook, of Abbotsford, B.C., and Guy Cook, of Wales, U.K.; and brother Bev Irvine, of Stanley, N.B. She is also survived by Krista, Marcia, Mariana, Mariza, Anthony, Trevor, Tyson, Nathan, Brent, Jeff and Jenna.

She was predeceased by her husband Daniel Sr., her son Daniel Jr., and by her parents Gordon and Estella. A graveside service was held on July 23, 2003. Interment in Mann's Settlement Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were in the care of Maher's Funeral Home, Campbellton.

Marion Adele Mueller- Sims (Mammy)

July 5, 1933 to July 19, 2003

On Saturday July 19, 2003, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Hamilton Ontario, surrounded by her loving family, Marion, formerly of Campbellton, passed away peacefully into the loving arms of Jesus.

She was predeceased by her loving husband Cyrill Mueller and her loving parents Opal and Arthur Doucet (formerly of Campbellton). She is survived by her sons David Sims, Hamilton, Ontario, and Jerry (Debbie Keeley) Sims, Grimsby, Ontario, and most cherished granddaughter Keeley. She is also survived by her sisters Alinda White of Hamilton, Ontario and Audrey (Leonard) Davis of Stoney Creek, Ontario, as well as many nieces and nephews.

The funeral service was held at "Bayview Mausoleum" in Burlington, Ontario on Saturday July 26, 2003, with inurnment following the service. In lieu of flowers , donations in Marion's name can be made to the St. Joseph Foundation & Healthcare Centre, Hamilton, Ontario, or a charity of your choice. "May the winds of love blow softly And whisper so you'll hear We will always love and miss you and wish that you were here".

Major Bakhshish Singh Bajwa

Major Bakhshish Singh Bajwa, father of Dr. Harry Bajwa of Point La Nim, and formerly of Jalandhar, Punjab, India, passed away at his residence, at 5 p.m. on July 18, 2003, at the age of 91.

Born in India, he was the son of late Mr. Tara Singh and Basant Kaur. He was predeceased by his parents and brother Bakhtavar Singh, and sister Rajinder Kaur and his wife Gurdip Kaur.

He is survived by his sons, Inderjit Singh (Surjit), of Toronto, Ont., Mohinder Singh (Gurpreet), of Squamish B.C., Dr. H.S. Bajwa (Rajinder), of Point La Nim; daughters Surinder Kaur (Amarjit), of New Jersey, Narinder Kaur (Bhupinder), of San Francisco, and Kulwant Kaur (Malkiat), of Vancouver B.C.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Dyal Singh (Baljit), of India, Varinder Singh (Amarjit), of Toronto, Jabinder Singh (Baljit), of Toronto, Raju, Alka, Shaheen and Montie, of New Jersey, Joy and Chhottie, of San Francisco, Neetu and Lovy, of Vancouver, Vikram and Arpun, of Point La Nim, Sonia Rehana and Amrita, of Squamish, B.C.

He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Dilraj and HarRaj, of India, Navraj and Ajay, of Toronto, and Amrit and Jagroop, of Toronto.

Funeral services were arranged by MacMillan's Funeral Home in Black Point. Visitation and Cremation were held at J. Albert Walker Funeral Home of Dartmouth, N.S., and religious ceremony was held at Maritimes Sikh Society Gurdwara, in Halifax, N.S. followed by Langar (religious food), on Monday, July 21, 2003.

He led a very dignified and successful life, which he owed to his grandfather who was privy to the Queen. After finishing his schooling in his village, he studied at DAV College, Lahore University, in India, in 1933.

He joined the army and very quickly proceeded through the ranks to achieve commission in 1943 to become an Officer in the British Army, where he got promoted to the rank of Major. He retired in 1963, and was re-employed for NCC until 1967. During his service, he fought in World War II and won the 1939-45 Star, Africa Star, Burma Star, War Medal, Defence Medal and Indian Independence Medal. He was also a security confident to the Prime Minister. He was fluent in Urdu, English, Punjabi, Persian, Hindi and conversational French. He was an avid writer of Urdu poetry and commentator in English for national newspapers on politics in India. He was a great volunteer and very active in politics and community affairs. He was a very spiritual and humble person. He was a friend of the poor, lived by his principals and believed in hard work.

He moved to Canada in 1977 in Dawson Creek, B.C., and later returned to his homeland, where he stayed until the death of his wife in 1993. He then returned to New Brunswick. He was a very proud Canadian. He joined the Royal Canadian Legion, Vancouver, in 1977, and convinced the Legion to allow the Sikhs with Turbans into the Legion. He remained a good member of the Legion until today. He was very active in sports and was physically fit. Until three years ago, he used to walk every day six kilometres on Route 134 in Point La Nim, even in the harsh winters of Northern New Brunswick.

He was well travelled. His last tour of India was in the summer of 2001. He always adjusted well to the situation and had great faith in God/Super Power. From a very young age, his desire was to find God. In search of his creator, he travelled to mountains, caves, and many gurwaras, mandirs, masjids, and churches. He was a devoted reader of Guru Granth Sahib (Sikh holy book). He was also very fond of reading Bibal and Bhagwat Geeta and Quran. He was also an avid reader of spiritual books of such authors as Swami Vivekananda, Swami Sivananda, James Van Praagh, Dr. Paul Brunton and Baba Fkir Chand ji.

He was a very caring and loving father, grandfather and father-in-law, and provided a good education to his children. His teachings to his family are "God is within oneself, He is always with you, talk to him with honesty and sincerely, He will listen. Keep your thoughts positive and work hard. Respect and love others and His blessings will be showered upon you."
